Okay, so I grew up as a Christmas and Easter kind of catholic. I never received confirmation or baptism. I recently turned back to the church. (Im on my third mass now, shopping around a couple local parishes.) I was wondering the process at which I would take to fully join a church.

Welcome Home!!!

I’d suggest finding your geographical parish (everybody lives inside the boundaries of a parish, just like we live in a county or a country) and after the Holiday make an appointment to talk to your Pastor. Just sit down and talk with him, either in his office or over a lunch or a beer!

Contact your Pastor once you choose a Parish and go to RCIA. RCIA is the adult education program to join the Church. God bless!

@Leo4, RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. There are different ways to prepare for these rites, that is the reason you sit down with your pastor. Sometimes people attend a series of “classes” and for some reason the classes have become colloquially known by the same name as the Rites. Kind of confusing!

Your pastor will either talk about Instruction in a group/class or individual instruction.

OP, yours is my fave New Years resolution!

You are certain you were never baptized?

If you were never baptized, please contact the office of a parish near you and tell them you are interested in converting to Catholicism. In the USA, it’s common to go through a program called RCIA. You can go through the program and decide not to go through with it if you don’t want to. In the USA, many RCIA programs run from September through Easter, so the 2018 to 2019 class is about halfway through already. They may put you down to enroll in the 2019 to 2020 class. My notes may not apply to all dioceses, especially in other countries, so start by contacting your parish office to find out more.

In the meantime, I recommend still attending a mass every Sunday. Do not receive communion, but otherwise feel free to participate (or just observe) everything else. You can still worship with us and start your journey.

If you can watch the program called Catholicism by Bishop Robert Barron, that can give some good introductory material.

Please keep us posted on your journey. I’d love to hear it. You warm my heart.

Welcome and salutations! I hope you find the journey to be beautiful and life changing! God bless.

Find a nice parish near you and seek counsel from a priest at that parish. You then will need to participate in adult education classes to fulfill your baptismal and confirmation needs.
Welcome back home.
God bless you!

Welcome home! ❤️

Find a parish where you feel loved, welcomed and at home. Don’t settle for any parish.
I pray you know the grace, love, everlasting mercy and goodness of God through Jesus everyday. God loves you.

This was my experience, had to finally try a different diocese (eparchy) but eventually found an Eastern Catholic church to call home.
