How do I tell my grandkids why their parents won't take them to Mass?

What can I tell my grandchildren, ages 7 and 9? They are taught at their Catholic school that they should attend Mass on Sundays and they know that my husband and I attend Mass daily. But their mom and dad, who used to take them when they were toddlers, now do not attend Mass. They won’t let us take them. What do I tell the children when they ask about the discrepancy?
 
That they should talk to their parents about it. If they ask if they can come to Mass with you, you might say, “Grandpa and I would be happy to take you to Mass with us, but you’ll need to ask your mom and dad for permission.” And take heart. At least your grandchildren’s parents are sending them to Catholic school. They may eventually see the incongruity there and at least allow you to take them with you to Mass – particularly if the children ask to prepare for First Communion and confirmation with all their friends.
