How do I use Holy Water?

My mother gave me a small container of Holy Water. I have never acquired same for “personal” use. I thought about sprinkling my house with it, but then I wasn’t sure how I should do that. Is there a process or a prayer that should accompany it? I welcome your thoughts. I am a relatively new convert. Pax domini!
 
I bless myself at home with Holy Water (in small bottle) and the sign of the cross daily, sometimes a couple of times a day.

Holy Water removes your venial sins and bless you besides.

I’m not sure how to use it on objects, but I believe you can without a problem.

Never thought about that … using it with the sign of the cross. Thank you!

Get a holy water font and nail it up at the door you use to come into and leave the house. Dip into it as you would at church and cross yourself as you leave the house, and you can say any prayer you wish. “Jesus, protect me as I leave today and keep me safe to glorify you in all I think, do and say.”

I have used/sprinkled many gallons of salted and blessed {by priests] holy water on the graves and ground in cemeteries while praying for the Holy Souls - such practice is said by visionaries and saints alike to help ease and console them.

“By this holy water and by Thy Precious Blood, wash away all my sins and the sins of the Poor Souls in Purgatory, O Lord”.

Of course the Holy Mass is the greatest source of consolation and help we may offer for Souls in Purgatory, since it’s graces and merits are infinite and eternal.

Does anyone else remember when most Catholic homes had a small font or was that just in our community? And does it remain proper to add water to Holy Water as long as the addition is less than half of the remaining original? :confused:

I’ve always used it with the sign of the cross as well.

You can drink it too, many traditional priests recommend it as a way of warding off temptations.

Salted or Unsalted? Which is preferred?

Blessed Salt for Ritual? Or Simple Salt to prohibit growth?

Can one always increase the amount of water by addition? Is the same true for salt? Is there a limit?

The salt is of the table salt kind, nothing fancy, there is no particular ratio measurement, it is usually simply blessed by a priest who knows what its main intended use is for. Occasionally it has the full Latin ceremonial.

I make a sign of the Cross with the water, that includes a particular prayer, and ask God to multiply its merits/graces/benefits for ALL souls in Purgatory.

I then spend some time in prayer for all souls, particularly those most forsaken, and those to die ‘this day’ or soon.
I wish more folks would do likewise - it is sadly amazing how much is sometimes spend on lavish flower displays, and how little is spent on prayer. Flowers do not benefit the souls in Purgatory - prayers do.
