My fiance and I are currently engaged and will marry July 10. I would like both my parents and my fiance’s parents names on the invitation. I just don’t know how to go about the proper religious wording for our invitation. Is there anything you can suggest that would sound beautiful and still include the sacrament of matrimony?

One thing to keep in mind is that a wedding invitation does not properly give “credit” to the parents of the couple as their parents (i.e., a wedding invitation is not intended to announce, “In the role of parents…”). The wedding invitation is meant to offer hospitality on the occasion of your marriage from the hosts of the event. Traditionally, the hosts are the bride’s parents, which is why their names usually appear at the top. In Europe, the hosts are sometimes the groom’s parents. These days, when couples are older and managing their own wedding plans, it is the couple who hosts the event and so the invitation appears in their names.

If you have decided that both sets of parents are hosting your wedding, here is one way in which to word the invitation:
Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Nicholas Jameson
and
Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Riley McKenna
request the honor of your presence at the marriage in Christ of their children
Angela Marie Jameson
and
Mr. David Patrick McKenna
They will be united in the sacrament of holy matrimony…
