No where in scripture is lashing for wearing trousers.

The Sudanese judiciary is quoted as saying that “this woman was punished under sharia, Islamic law.” To my knowledge, sharia law is derived from Islamic scriptures.

Also, it seems that the trouble with the specific incident, in the eyes of the judiciary, was not the beating itself but particular aspects of the beating, i.e. that it was in public, men were laughing at her, &c.

I appreciate the point you were trying to make, but there is at least a prima facie case that, because Muslims accord the Koran the same respect as Catholics do Jesus — literally the word of God incarnate, and please correct me if I am wrong — sharia law cannot be easily cordoned off as the instincts of rabid fundamentalists, as Catholics do with faulty fundamentalist interpretations of the Levitical laws.

I got what I wanted. You read my post and from that post you know where I stand on the issue of islam’s intolerance and violence toward groups which seem not to be able to defend themselves. I never expect anything less than the classic Tu quoque excuse from a muslim apologist and that was exactly what you gave. Nothing personal here…no expectations…just no surprises either. By the way…the Catholic Church has finally taken full responsibility for errant priests and apologized for the conduct and is taking action to prevent further incidents.
What I would like from you now is a report on similar actions taken by islamic leaders…over and out

And yet those doing the lashing will use verses from the Qur’an and Hadith to support their vile behaviour. This cowardly act was committed in the name of Islam, whether you agree with that or not is irrelevant. The article states that the punishment was performed according to Shari’ah.

Your comparison falls flat because child rape has not, to my knowledge, been carried out in the name of Catholicism.

Where do you get that from? If it was for the pants, how easy it not to wear pants where you know it’s very illegal. It’s like lighting up a crack pipe in public in the US. For something essentially harmless, you could get years in prison, far worse than this whipping.

I want to say I do not believe that Sharia law states this is correct – however I am not a Sharia scholar or lawyer. But, I also want to say that this type of thing is so awful and terrible (i do not have the words to describe my feelings about it) and I have also seen this type of thing here in the USA when policemen have beaten on black men in the street saying “he had a gun” and “he was going to use it” , only to find that the black man had no such gun. So, what I am saying is there is too much injustice in the world but thank God because in today’s world it is not possible to hide it anymore. Soon, God’s people must stand against this world’s injustice – all injustice,not just what suits a person’s hidden agendas. I thought Obama was a Christian? And, is there a problem with being a muslim in this country? THe USA I mean — where we have freedom of religion? :crying:
