I’ve held a Service of Tenebrae at every church I’ve ever served on Good Friday. They expected both Holy Thursday and Good Friday services, as well as other worship during the Triduum.

My ex-fiancé is Evangelical Christian, he attended a Willow Creek church at the time, and came from a Nazarene background. He would always keep the three hours of silence from noon till three, and would fast on the day. He always preferred going to Catholic mass and services for the big holidays (Easter & Christmas). But preferred his Willow Creek thing for the rest of the year.

AFH,how blessed was your church when the Shroud expert came and that he gave a medical explanation to what a human body goes through from a Crucifixion. How I wish he could have come to my parish and given that same talk.
ALL Christians, whether Protestant or Catholic have in a way forgotten what our Lord went through for us. We all need to be reminded of what God did for us in dieing on the cross to better appreciate His Resurrection from the tomb.
HE HAS RISEN…not just for some, but for All.
AFH, who was the speaker who came to your church, I ask because I would love to have him come to my parish and give this same talk, I believe that our Youth in particular could learn something from him, and us “older kids” as well.

I’m not sure what the local NDE church does, but I know a handful of the men there from a Bible Study I used to attend. On Thursday night, I saw them at a restaurant, and they said “Happy Easter” to me. I kind of wanted to reply with “not yet” or something, but I just accepted the greeting and said “to you too”.

Several Lutheran parishes in my neighbourhood held Tenebrae services this year. Actually, this is an old service that had even fallen by the wayside amongst Catholics until a few years ago. My parish held them last year and this year, but I was unable to go either time. We had them on Wednesday of Holy Week, so did the Lutheran parishes. I hope I will be able to attend next year.

It is not that common in Catholic parishes where I live. In the newspaper ad, I saw only about 5 Catholic parishes and 2 Lutheran parishes having the service. I really don’t know if any other Lutheran parishes have Tenebrae service, other than those that advertised it. I got together with extended family on Easter, and none of my family members, Catholic or Lutheran, ever heard of Tenebrae, not even the older Catholics.
