how do other denominations handle exorcisms?

I dont get it…Do some Evangelical groups really not believe in Satan? How do Protestants, Baptists and others feel about the devil and exorcism?

I mean from what i read: Lutherans more or less just preach to the demon until the demon gets bored and leaves, Angelicans have a swat team of exorcists ready to act for “psychological reasons” and Pentecostalists make it up as they go along (no structure to an exorcism).

so what does that mean. they all call a Catholic of Methodist if **** hits the fan? (excuse my language)

In the Episcopal church, we invite the posessed person to a vestry meeting. That usually does the trick.

Orthodox Christian Priests exercise infants and converts immediately before Baptism. By the Rite of Exorcism.

The Latin Rite of Baptism also includes a rite of exorcism, but I think it is a minor exorcism, and not the major rite that is performed only in extreme situations.

I wonder why it’ not used all the time in the Latin Rite because one of my children, as an infant, was baptized in a Roman Catholic Church and they didn’t preform the exorcism…oh wait am I confused? It was a during the N.O. Easter Vigil, not a Traditional Latin Easter Vigil Mass.

I don’t know about the Catholic practice of that Rite other than it was not done on my child. When she was baptised into Orthodoxy she was exorcised though. It’s a length Rite, about 20+ mins. But there were 3 people going through it which probably legthened it.

I believe every diocese has an official exorcist. My wife knows the one in our diocese but he does not readily talk about it. It’s sort of a private matter and they want people to try psychological anaysis first.

He did say there were 3 signs of an authentic possession and if any of these were present they started the exorcism without psychological analysis.

What about the priest coming to a new house to bless it. Wasn’t that a kind of exorcism? Does anyone do that anymore?

i had my house blessed just this August

i don’t believe any form of exorcism was included

I think that in the case I experienced, the police should have been called rather than the pastor. Probably my pentecostal friend shouldn’t have tried to do the exorcism. But what did we know, we were all just a bunch of pentecostal “kids” who loved the Lord and wanted to bust some demons.

Its not that complicated for a Christian bathed in the blood of Jesus and with God on his side, get two or three (or more) Saints together and pour on the possessed the wrath of God. Until the demon or devil gets out and cast back into Hell.

How did the demon get out of Hell in the first place? It’s supposed to be a place of eternal torment, and there is also supposed to be a great divide between our world and the next. Either our understanding of it is completely wrong, or it doesn’t exist as an eternal place of torment from God.

I do believe very strongly as a Christian these gifts tend to favor certain people but not clergy, we are all clergy to God but all the faithful can take part. But its like all the Gifts of the Spirit each gets the measure of authority as God considers it wise.

So, what you are saying is that the clergy do not have the faculties to exorcise demons but that we do because we are all priests? If that were the case, there would’t be the need for exorcisms to begin with.
