How do poor people afford children?

I am one of 6 kids, and I have 6 kids myself. Being an engineer, I make a pretty good income, but it’s not exactly easy either.

As my father once said when asked how he could afford to raise 6 kids: “It costs the same to raise six kids and it does to raise one…every cent 'ya got”

You need to avoid debt and eat cheaply. In the short term it is useful to have a trade that you can use to bring in extra cash. I was a locksmith on the side, my dad did carpentry. Find something you can do and work strictly for cash. In the long term you need to find something that you can do that can support a family. 30k a year just isn’t going to cut it.
