How do pro-women's ordination deal with the 12 male Apostles?

So that means answering a question I’m not asking??? Confused.

What colors make purple?

Well, cookies are unhealthy for you!

That’s literally what some are saying.

All arguments are based on axioms. The Catholic Church places church precedent on near equal footing as scripture. The Church has always considered male attributes essential to the priesthood. Therefore, any argument that male attributes are not essential is not a valid Catholic argument.

Scripture documents only male apostles. That is only an indirect example of the Catholic principle. Had Jesus appointed female apostles, the Catholic teaching would conflict with scripture. One or the other would be wrong.

However, Jesus appointing only male apostles does not itself preclude future bishops appointing female clergy. Jesus’s example might not be binding. Catholic teaching since the time the scriptures were written, however, has always precluded female ordination.

So you answer your question, groups that advocate female ordination simply reject Catholic precedent and claim Christ’s appointment of exclusively make apostles was not itself binding precedent.

If you do not consider church teachings to the contrary binding, you can argue in favor of anything!

Oh, and don’t forget what I said in the original post:
I know this is a Catholic forum, and so many of y’all will be answering from second-hand knowledge. But still, any familiarity with this?

Until one day a Pope says that it does have the authority. Then it has the authority.
No. The impossibility of female priests was stated by John Paul II in Ordinatio Sacerdotalis and later confirmed to be infallible under the Ordinary Magisterium. No future pope can overturn this even if he wanted to, what is infallible once is infallible for all time.

Yes to this. I advocate for female ordination because I don’t put God in a box, so to speak. I believe that With God, all things are possible. Therefore, I never say never when it comes to these issues.

Yes, this does seem to be the essential answer.

I don’t think anyone here is interested in postulating arguments for a position we don’t hold, can’t hold and on which the pope has said the discussion is closed.

What we want to do here in CAF is support Church doctrine not take positions in opposition to it.

You are more than welcome not to participate then!

But many of us here on CAF are familiar with the broader Christian world and have friends/family with different opinions and beliefs than our own. I’m asking those familiar to contribute. Again, you don’t have to.

You’re on the wrong forum. Do not advocate for female ordination here. The Church has spoken.

@Edwest211, chill. Qwerty isn’t even a Catholic. So she is not misleading anyone. To a non-Catholic, the idea of infallible binding decisions is not even held to.

Non-Catholic users of CAF are known to, well, NOT agree with every Catholic teaching…

Maybe if she wasn’t saying that the Church would change doctrines then people wouldn’t have as much of a problem.

I think he is saying that supporting women’s ordination in the Catholic church doesn’t matter because the Church can not ordain women. It was a decision made by Christ. It is a done deal.

You might as well ask something like, “why do you support Mass without a priest?” or “why do you support banning the sacrament of penance?”.

They are not things that can be done and neither can the Church allow women priests. It is not something the Church has authority to do.

Progressive takes on many meanings when it comes to Catholicism.

They may not agree with Catholic teaching or understand it but this is a Catholic forum and these are the answers to Catholic questions.

Hopefully Catholics will give them Catholic answers so they understand and not lead them to believe something might happen and given them a false thinking. That is kind of what this thread does.

The point of CAF is to give the Catholic Answer. Sure, not every Catholic follows Church teaching on this or that but they should. To be counted among the faithful means to be faithful. Holy Mother Church has good reason for saying and doing what she does, for our benefit. We need to move closer to God and not be moved by the wind of opinion. The contamination of the World is strong, especially from the media, including the internet. Catholics need to let go of what the world wants and see and do what God and His Church wants. That’s our Christian walk.

I think that the 12 apostles might not have much ground to base an all male priesthood on so it might be deflected.

No no no. No. You’re missing the point. It’s not they can’t do the job because they’re women. It’s that a woman can’t do the job because they’re not men. See the difference?

If women were meant to do the job, they would be men. And since women can’t be men, they can’t do the job.

Women have a different role, and that is to do the things they can’t do because they’re not men.

There were some who were indignant. “Why has there been this waste of perfumed oil? It could have been sold for more than three hundred days’ wages and the money given to the poor.” They were infuriated with her.
Jesus said, “Let her alone. Why do you make trouble for her? She has done a good thing for me.”
Mark 14:4-6
Some are always objecting to the ministry of women.

And lest we forget, we treasure women so much that we want to protect them from the burdens of leadership. Why, I put my own wife under a glass dome on the mantle above the fireplace.
