No, as a Catholic, I was never taught what YOU (larkin31) mean by ‘institutional authority’ in the context of this question. I will assume because of your lack of an answer it was just an anti-catholic quip.
you assume wrong (again)

Other Christian denominations have institutional hierarchies and methodologies for establishing doctrine and their Biblical cannon. Some don’t get into the separate process of determining a canon but rather ascribe to a canon developed by another religious institutional body. Most everyone knows this. If you don’t know this fact, then it is just your religious myopia getting in the way.

No we really are interested in a answer. We just never got one yet!😃 Don’t think we will. But who knows.

But honstly could you answer for a Protestant?
This makes my point. Thank you.

round and round the mulberry bush
I knew you didn’t have an answer to that one, same as last time. I just thought maybe in the time that has elapsed you might have come up with one similar to the 'inspired by the author’s belief" kind of answer you finally came up with on the other thread.😉

A Catholic does not know what “institutional authority” means? You’re kidding, right?
So you’re defending your position from the vantage point of “institutional authority”? Which one? The Catholic Church’s authority?!!

Well, I’ve got to see that one.🍿

Here’s your problem, on what authority do you accept the canon? This isn’t a question so trivial that one should merely accept it particularly if the whole of your faith tradition depends upon this basic question.

A methodology is not necessarily authority or an institution. You seem to have either rephrased the question or answered it with “depends;” which is not really an answer.

Knows what? You really did not say anything.

Maybe an active Protestant will answer the question.

Why do you keep asking questions concerning the Protestant point of view simply to say that you don’t accept it? If you acknowledge the CC as the only legitimate authority, why would you feign interest in anyone else’s institutions?

maybe, if you guys actually showed any open interest in the answers
I am very interested in an answer. Your answer was ‘institutional authority’; which requires clarification. When asked to clarify, you gave an anti-catholic quip. When pressed, you gave an answer which amounted to “depends” followed by a personal attack. If you have a real thought out answer, I would like to hear it but so far little shots at Catholicism, me, or Catholics are not answers; enlightening responses but not answers.

you are on my ignore list now. I have treated you exactly as you have treated me.

If you want to know anything about the history of the Protestant view of the canon, I suggest you change your tone or simply do some research on your own

this entry in Wiki at a quick glance seems a very good place to start–better than any response that you will get here.

A better question is how can Catholics defend there OT cannon. It has been changed to suit their whims.

The question had little to do with the Protestant view of the ‘history’ of the canon; it was about the authority to accept the canon. Because you had nothing more than a quip on this subject, it is probably best for you to engage your frequently used MO; declare victory and retreat with a full head in sand maneuver.

I would like to hear a Protestant answer to this question.

That’s the CAFs of a little boy taking his ball and going home saying, "I’m not playing anymore 'cause you called me out!:

But that’s the point WE are not to go by what we understand, WE are to go by what the Church teaches because the Church has the fullness of the Truth.

He promised us that. So if you go by the Teachings of the RCC you are promised the gift of the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth. 😃 No error can follow!!😉

Your church tells you it has the truth and can’t make doctrinal error. You believe what your church says. Good for you.

Thanks for your opinion. However, there are teahings you believe in that I can’t find in the Bible, but quite opposite understanding.

Just because I think the CC is sometimes wrong DOES **NNOOTT **mean I think anyone should leave the CC. In fact I’ve always maintained that there is NO church with a corner on perfection. I go further and say NO Christian has a corner either, especially me.

Notice Jesus is speaking to the disciples, not the present day CC and its leaders.
You assume that Jesus was giving instructions to the Apostles only for their generation and then when that was done to close the door of the Church and throw away the key. You do not accept Apostolic Succession and the Deposit of Faith. This makes no sense.
You assume incorrectly about my assumption. I DO NOT think it’s only for their generation, but for all of us, especially those God calls to be leaders (which is far bigger than the CC.)

Hisalone I should have known:D It has been quite quiet of late. Now lets see if history can repeat itself. You know what I mean when you make a statement and then are asked to defend it. You seem to get lost for awhile.

But here it is!! Show us one thing in the Catholic faith N.T or O.T that the Church has ever taught as Cannon of Scripture that they have ever changed? It is going to be quite a while folks:D

Okay fair enough. Game ON:D

First of all your job is to show me where the bible says that everything that Jesus taught is in the bible.

Second Job. Show me where the CC has ever taught anything that disagrees with the word of God.

Third job. (I will keep you busy for sometime:D What do you feel the CC has taught that is wrong? And lets see if we can show you either ST or SS to help you out there:D
