Your church tells you it has the truth and can’t make doctrinal error. You believe what your church says. Good for you.

Thanks for your opinion. However, there are teahings you believe in that I can’t find in the Bible, but quite opposite understanding.

Just because I think the CC is sometimes wrong DOES **NNOOTT **mean I think anyone should leave the CC. In fact I’ve always maintained that there is NO church with a corner on perfection. I go further and say NO Christian has a corner either, especially me.
Are I think that there is quite a bigger corner. Its called the Catholic Church in which Christ claims he is the cornerstone!

perhaps this thread has outlived its usefulness
🤷
I don’t know larkin that is your opinion. And you know what they say about opinions they are like… everyones got one.
😃

But I would lke to hear what the protestants have to say. Because they are after all our Brothers and Sister in Christ. We may be separated in brethren, but we do agree on the one most important thing in the world. We do accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and God.

And I can say for myself I have made quite a few friends here on ths site. I have a few LDS on here that I disagree with in about every single piece of scripture spoken by God but I think they are quite awesome.

I met many Protestants here, they are quite awesome.

Even met many Jews I really think alot of.

But because we disagree does not mean I do not value and would like to hear what they have to say.😃

For anyone interested in how various Protestant denominations (and other groups) have determined the canon, here is a good place to start.
Larkin what does that have to do with how Protestants Defend the Canon of the N.T?

Everyone knows how it was DETERMINED. That is not the question that was asked.

I don’t understand the question, then, and I simply suggest that you read more. The answer you want is somewhere out there.

a quick google serach of “Protestant defense of the canon” gave me many results, including this one, more elaborate than the earlier one I provided:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Development_of_the_New_Testament_canon#Protestant_Developments_.28from_c._1517.29

If what you mean to ask is, “How do Protestants argue that their choice is right?” then I suggest that you read all of these documents to find out. My guess is that all denominations, at heart, feel that inspired wisdom of a collection (or maybe just one) of religious leaders is WHY they trust the selections of works and translations that they make. This is how most religious institutions work over time.

Okay fair enough. Game ON:D

First of all your job is to show me where the bible says that everything that Jesus taught is in the bible.

Second Job. Show me where the CC has ever taught anything that disagrees with the word of God.

Third job. (I will keep you busy for sometime:D What do you feel the CC has taught that is wrong? And lets see if we can show you either ST or SS to help you out there:D
#1. No I don’t and I can’t John 21:5 And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen.

#2. IMO, infant baptism and perpetual virginity of Mary to name two … and that the CC is 100% correct in all its teachings.

Dokimas, you said you have no problem with church practices which aren’t in Scripture–just the ones which you believe contradict Scripture, right?

So regarding infant baptism, you’ll have to show us what verses say “infant ought not be baptized.” OR “only adults may be baptized.”

Another question. Sorry:D Okay how could God call any leaders to be bigger than himself? I mean is God not a jealous God?

Now Jesus states that he is indeed the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church is lead by the Holy Spirit, how much bigger can you get then that?
Who said God calls leaders that are bigger than He is? I said His leaders number more than the number of leaders of the CC (or at least that is what I meant).

The Bible says Jesus is the HEAD of His church. The church include every child of God which, again, is much bigger than the CC, IMO, which is what the Bible seems to validate.

Seems the reason you are confused is because the real church Jesus founded is much bigger than the CC.

Out of curiosity, does the New Testament ever state that infant baptism is an important or necessary process for the spiritual life of the person? Is an infant ever even baptized in scripture? Does the NT ever discuss the age of anyone that is baptized? I came from a Protestant tradition of infant baptism, but I never questioned it and have not read or looked for it in the NT in any recent year, so I can’t recall…

Are you sure you want to go over this AAAAAAGGGGGGGAAAAAAAIIIIIIINNNNNNNN?

I’ve given reasons before and have answered the reasons for infant baptism which boils down to the 5 households that were baptized.

No, no.

No.

Old enough to repent.

Yes! I want to know where the Catholic practice contradicts Scripture. You’ve just been saying before that you couldn’t find support for it in Scripture.

So where’s the verse that shows we’re CONTRADICTING the Bible?

Are these five households in different gospels? All in one reference?

I am just curious. I am not here to argue this issue. I don’t really care when anyone puts ritual water on a child’s head or body. I was baptized with my father, actually, in the same ceremony, and I can remember it. That was pretty cool, and that kind of family event has tremendous appeal as well…

No no no!!

Infant baptism is PROOF that Catholics believe that God’s gift of salvation is*** totally free and undeserved*** and that we do not WORK our way into salvation! For that cute little babe has done NOTHING–no works, no acts of repentance–in order to merit God’s gift.

so, Dok’s answers about scriptural references to it are correct? I asked you, but he replied and you did not.

Yes, there are numerous references to households getting baptized. One would think that this included infants. 🤷

INFANT BAPTISM PROVED FROM SCRIPTURE

Old Covenant

Genesis 17:9-14
9 Then God said to Abraham, “As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come. 10 This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised. 11 You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and you. 12 For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised, including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner—those who are not your offspring. 13 Whether born in your household or bought with your money, they must be circumcised. My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant. 14 Any uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised in the flesh, will be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.”

Leviticus 12:3
3 On the eighth day the boy is to be circumcised.

These texts show the circumcision of eight-day-old babies as the way of entering into the Old Covenant.

Connection to New Covenant

Col 2:11-12
In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of flesh in the circumcision of Christ; 12and you were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.

Baptism is the new “circumcision of Christ” for all people of the New Covenant.

We are Born Again Through Baptism

John 3:3-5
In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.” 4"How can a man be born when he is old?" 5Nicodemus asked. “Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb to be born!” Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.

Baptism Washes Away Actual Sins

Acts 22:16

And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.’

Do Infants Need Baptism?

Job 14:1-4
1 "Man born of woman is of few days and full of trouble. 2 He springs up like a flower and withers away; like a fleeting shadow, he does not endure. 3 Do you fix your eye on such a one? Will you bring him before you for judgment? 4 Who can bring what is pure from the impure? No one!

Psalm 51:5
5 Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.

We are conceived in the iniquity of sin. This shows the need for baptism from the moment of conception.

thanks

(Dokimas was right)

I see the argument. Does the RCC defend infant baptism with the same set of verses and thinking?
