Live a lot: I’ve had the great pleasure and privilege to go street witnessing with the Gospel of Jesus. I’ve walked down some streets that many would not go for fear. I’d started out fearfully and would walk up to the biggest man around and tell them about the love of Jesus.

I will refrain from locker room language, but I have some neat stories to tell, like the time I was grabbed by the collar and kicked in the shins. I’ve also had many listen to the claims of Jesus spoken from the lips of a sinner (me).

You claim to be a sinner. I am one too. Paul, of NT fame, claimed to be the worst of the lot of us.
“Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound…”

I am still singing.

Perhaps. 🤷

So is having a man and a woman get married in mythology. Does that mean that marriage in reality is also a myth?
That wasn’t my point.

My point was that miraculous birth stories, including this one, carry all sorts of meanings, cultural and psychological, the way that the poster was suggesting. I was affirming his/her point with additional information. I am not commenting on whether I think Mary ever had sex in her life. That speculation does not interest me.

What Larkin 31 says is true. Miraculous birth stories are common to mythology; as are flood myths, concepts of mother and child, blood sacrifice, the list is endless and they do carry all sorts of meanings. I would also concur in relation to speculating on Mary’s sex life. The message of the Gospel is not about Mary’s sex life. It is about the authors believed Jesus was and why they desired others to put faith in him. The only significance of that arguement is; are Catholics right concerning Mary’s virginity or are Protestants right. The issue of controversy at the time of the writing of the Gospels was the identity of Jesus Christ and this is what was important to the Gospel writers. As far as I know, controversy surrounding Mary’s perpetual virginity came much later.

To bring this point back to the purpose of the thread, the authenticity of the Canon of Scripture cannot be debated on the grounds of certain beliefs we find in the books of the Bible as these are based on interpretations. Neither can it be based on the belief that certain passages of scripture support our personal beliefs. It should be based on the criterion used to decide which writings were inspired, which were not, who made the decesion and why.

It’s Saturday night and I have been out. I was just singing to myself. I’m an aesthete and a poet and a drummer and a sinner. My crowd parties and dances and enjoys many of the beauties and pleasures of this world. We sin a fair amount, repent a little, and live a lot. If you don’t live a bit, then ya got nothin’ to talk about in the locker room…
That God does not exist, I cannot deny, That my whole being cries out for God I cannot forget.
Jean-Paul Sartre

Belief is a wise wager. Granted that faith cannot be proved, what harm will come to you if you gamble on its truth and it proves false? If you gain, you gain all; if you lose, you lose nothing. Wager, then, without hesitation, that He exists.
Blaise Pascal

Ephesians 2:
8 For by grace you **have been saved **through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Notice the verb in verse 8: past tense.

Notice the verse in Philippians 2: it says ‘your salvation’ - it’s ours already.
I agree. With Christ we are saved throught grace, And with that grace we are given faith, and with that faith we trust God to believe in his word and do good works which are asked of us. Which can only be acomplished through grace and faith.

As the gospel tells us faith WITHOUT good WORKS is fruitless:D

So it is a package deal. God did not put us here to only have faith and believe. God put us here to do his work. You either do Gods works or works of the devil. Only God knows our motives for sure, and like St Paul we Catholics work out ours with fear and trembling that we may also be fit for the kingdom of heaven:D

Indeed!

Catholics take the* entire* Scriptures, the* entire *Good News, and understand how we are saved:

SCRIPTURE tells us:
We are already saved (Rom. 8:24, Eph. 2:5–8)
We’re also being
saved (1 Cor. 1:8, 2 Cor. 2:15, Phil. 2:12)
****We hope that we **will be ******saved (Rom. 5:9–10, 1 Cor. 3:12–15)

*God bless you for your witness. If the sum total of your life is the saving of a single soul, it will have been worth it.

I’m willing to bet that most of these people who live this lifestyle suffer great moments of despair and emptiness.

I’m not going to argue with you on this, larkin. I’m just sayin’. 🤷

And I think you know it’s true as well. There’s not a single person who has lived the drugs, sex and rock-n-roll lifestyle that’s been celebrated in song and story that hasn’t woken up in the morning thinking, “What in the world? Why aren’t I happy? Why do I feel such misery?”.

That’s because they’re looking for love in all the wrong places. And their hearts will be restless until they rest in God.

I don’t know, but I’m guessing that the people who live this lifestyle you’re advocating probably have a higher use of anti-depressants, higher rate of addiction, divorce, suicide.

I dunno…they usually seem quite…um…miserable. When they’re sober that is.
*I believe that a high percentage of women who are raped and murdered have placed themselves in the wrong places. for instance, they go to bars alone or even with another girlfriend, they walk home alone in the dark etc. Oh I know there are many innocents who get caught but I do think that the places they frequent often make them vulnerable.

Sorry - off topic but I was making a remark on the subject of sin…

You’re welcome. Did you just miss my answer?

What I agreed to was that context tells us that either nothing happens after ‘until’ or something most likely did happen after ‘until’. A woman can’t have a baby after death. Mary did not die[SIGN] so she could have had relations with Joseph after she gave birth to Jesus. Agreed?[/SIGN]

I’m not saying the Matthew 1:25 verse is NOT a proof. It is good evidence FOR their relationship based on the use of ‘until’ in the other verses you agreed, in context, meant something was going to happen after ‘until’.

Married couples have relations after they are married. Mary was to wait ‘until’ Jesus was born.
No I do not agree here is why. Mary made a vow to God that she would be true to him forever and do whatever was asked of her.

Now like I explained to you Mary was the ark she contained the word. Do you agree that in her womb was the word, Jesus Christ. Okay if you agree to that then what else does the O.T say about the Ark?

THe Early Church Father compared it to the Eastern Gate Ezekiel 4:44THis gate shall remain shut it shall not be opene no one shall enter by it for the Lord the God is Israel has entered it, therefore it shall REMAIN SHUT.

Now that is what the Early Fathers of the Church taught.

Now if Joseph knew that Mary was to be the new ark and he knew when Uzzah we struck dead for tuoching the ark, do you now think that Joseph a faithfull man would not understand that Mary was consecrated to God alone.

Believe it or not Mary and Joseph having marital relations after the brith of Christ was an irreverence even the EARLY Protestant reformers rejected!

The context of “you can’t pray a lie” was, you can’t ask God to help you correct something you have no intention of correcting. Catholics teach that about confession

yeah, they should never leave their homes at night or have fun doing, you know, stuff that men do (subject of “sin”), cuz they might, you know, invite rapists or murderers to, well, rape or kill them

might burqas help?

God bless you Dokimas. I personally do not do the street witnessing thing. Well Yes I do.😃 But I do it my own way is all. Actually they are having a bike run for the little sisters of the poor I think next week. My Husband loves his bike. So I believe we will hit that run weather permitting.

I am no saint either, but my love for God is strong. I like to have a drink or so, but I also know that you must always be in control and know your limit. I love the fun things in life also. I am a cross maybe between you and larkin;) But I believe you can enjoy the fun things in life and still love and live for God. But I admire you for doing what you feel God is asking of you, and I pray I am doing my part also.

I like to brag about my patch on my vest. Loud pipes saves lives Jesus Christ saves souls. For my aniversary my daughter got me a pin for my vest. Follow the SON.

You know what they Say Jesus died for bikers too:D

But I would rather cry with the sinners and celebrate with the saints. They help me now, and they are crying with me, but someday we will celebrate together too.

When my husband and I started this new church you should have seen the old ladys:eek: I thought the one was going to have a heart attack when she saw him ride on his bike, plus he has a bald head:eek: He never did have good hair. Well needless to say 5 years later he helps them in the kitchen, etc. They LOVE him, hug him. and they love bikers now. 😃
