How do southern baptist feel about catholics?

Hi, im new to this site. I am a cradle catholic that has a lot to learn about my faith I married a southern baptist and have a 2yr boy that i baptised catholic. I am just wondering exactly how baptist feel about us catholics. My husband is very openminded so he does not think im going to hell for believing in my faith

I’ve read most of these posts, and while I’m not a Baptist there are two side to every coin. My wife is a former Roman Catholic and her Mom thinks we are doomed for Hell. She believes that there is no salvation outside the Catholic Church. So while it may be fun for you poke at the Southern Baptist there are Catholics that feel the same way they do.

Unfortunately the doctrine of no salvation outside of the Church is often misinterpreted by many Catholics, especially traditionalists. As a traditionalist myself, it is important to realize invincible ignorance in the case of salvation. This ignorance applies to many non-Catholics and non-Christians. But, in the fundamental Baptists community, this type of thinking is extremely common. It’s not the same way in the Catholic community, while some disregard invincible ignorance, it is not for the most part a majority.

If ANY catholic tells anyone, Catholic, protestant, or otherwise… that they are going to hell… they are in error.

It is not our place to judge…

Some of the most Christianity people I have known were protestants… and some of the most vitriolic people I have ever known are Catholic…

The door does swing both ways…

That being said…

No Catholic Priest, Nun, Bishop, etc is suppose to teach that ‘protestants are gnostic heretics bound for hell’ If they do, they are in serious error…

Unfortunately, There are plenty of ‘pastors’ that do teach that the Catholic Church is an evil Idolatrous empire…

Some of the most popular protestant teachers have entire sections on their websites about ‘convert Catholics to Christians’ (Ray Comfort, White, MacArthur )

And it is accepted without problem …

Good grief! I certainly didn’t expect this thread to get MEAN.

People fear what they don’t understand, especially when what they think they are hearing is contradictory to what they’ve been taught about their salvation. You can’t convince (or convert, for that matter) someone who isn’t listening. “Ignorant” and “brainwashed” aren’t the right words for the people on those boards … try “secure” and “happy”. How much luck would a Muslim have coming on this board and arguing how us Catholics are ignorant and brainwashed?

Those of you who are moonlighting on other boards must like beating your head against a wall. How about just praying for our Protestant brothers and sisters and using your Catholic knowledge for the confused on THIS board? There are plenty here who need it and would appreciate it more. Save yourself the headache.

Are they doing so because they hate you? No. They are trying to save you from something they believe is evil. God love 'em for being so diligent. Wasting their time? Absolutely. But I doubt the Lord is high-fiving you for engaging in the argument.

You don’t have to suffer fools, nor do you have to hunt them down.

I’ll tell you the same thing I tell Protestants who try to convince me I’m wrong. We both believe in Jesus Christ … shouldn’t you be fussing at those who don’t?

I think i am giving up on them. I cant listen to their garbage anymore, it is too frustrating. They are just ignorant.

Take a look at yourself in the mirror before you accuse anyone of throwing stones. You might also try reading the posts so you don’t become confused and post things that make no sense.

I don’t know what your hatefulness is about. You obviously didn’t read the thread, or you would know that I didn’t pick an argument with the woman, I tried to point out her error, and so, yes, I will rightfully say she persists in chosen ignorance.

Salvation outside the Church is an extremely important doctrine to realize and to debate. Believing in Jesus Christ is also believing in Christ’s One True, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. Baptist ordinations are not valid, they do not have apostolic succession, and therefore do not have valid sacraments! This isn’t an important issue to discuss? Perhaps you should look more deeply into the importance of the Eucharist, Confirmation, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Marriage, and Holy Orders, to realize just how important membership in God’s only Church is.

Ok, you win, you were pointing out her error. My mistake, I apologize. I can honestly say I have never been chastised so harshly for telling people to “be nice to others”. I’ll try “reading the posts so I don’t become confused and post things that make no sense” from now on. I’ll seriously rethink my hateful attitude before I preach compassion and prayer for our disillusioned Christian brothers. Thanks for really putting me in my place, I obviously needed it with all my talk of “pray rather than argue”.

I agree that in most cases, the debate is futile and will result in arguements and a refusal to listen. But, ground can be made against “Bible Christians” and Fundamentalists, if the correct approach is used. I recommend “Catholicism and Fundamentalism: The Attack on Rome by Bible Christians”, written by this site’s founder, Karl Keating. This book is extremely informative and helpful in making a defense against Bible Christians, such as Baptists, that, by using sola scriptura as they do, reaches them on a personal level. It may seem hopeless in debating, but there is a specific way.
