And, you think that societies have stopped forcing values? Ask British Christians who run bed and breakfasts or Germans who wish to home school. It’s illegal in some countries to preach against homosexuality. It is hard to believe, nowadays, some of the things humans did to each other - the inflicting of one group’s standards upon another, regardless of whether those standards were appropriate for the others or not. It’s simple arrogance that tries to dictate how people should live, if their needs are met in ways that are not inherently harmful. Perhaps, as many have said, in half a century from now, people will look back on our treatment of homosexual couples with the same incredulity that we now look back upon our ancestors’ treatment of mixed-race couples…
Wherever an idea is popular and deeply felt, it’s forced upon society. Where there’s opposition and democracy, not so much, but not because some people have moved past the temptation.
Perhaps in 100 years, we’ll look at paedophilia the same way we do homosexuality, with only a vocal minority opposed.
I think homosexuality will be more like abortion, with a strong opposition that people take seriously. Racism isn’t based on the natural law, nor is it embedded in any lasting creed (its worst forms were the result of the scientific thinking of the enlightenment).
