How do we become sinless?

It is written in Proverbs 24:16 “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again” (KJV)

The lord said, “be perfect, as your father in heaven is perfect”

I have difficulty reconciling how we’re supposed to be Perfect and yet we still fall down to sin on daily basis. is there something I’m missing? Are we not to be sinless and in perfect charity?

Be gentle with yourself, stop focusing on sin and failure and focus on the love of our heavenly Father. At the end of each day, ask yourself how he has blessed you each hour, and ask yourself how you can better respond to his blessings tomorrow. If your focus is only on your sin, you will despair. If your focus is the mercy of God, you will rise above your sins.

Yes, we are supposed to be.

No, it’s not going to happen in this life because of our fallen nature. We will all commit at least venial sin.

That’s why we have Church and Sacrament. To help us, because this life is full of falling down and rising up again. The call is to persevere.

There is one thing we can do to become perfect and sinless.

We can die.

Those who are in charity are one the road towards perfection…only in heaven and then later at the resurrection and the new heavens and new earth will we be always without sin.

Important to distinguish between mortal sins and venial sins.

In this life we will have venial sins (daily sins)…while we are to avoid venial sins (and repent of them when we sin) - we cannot avoid all venial sins per se. There will be some.

Without a special grace from God - not the norm- we will have yes some venial sins.

For which we pray “Our Father…etc…forgive us our trespasses…” daily as St. Augustine noted.

…and remember that the* reality* of being “in Christ” as Paul put it…of “living in Christ”…of being a saint via baptism…even if we struggle against ‘daily sins’…indeed let is live in this reality and focus on Christ

“At the beginning of Christianity, the members of the Church were also called “saints”. In his First Letter to the Corinthians, St Paul addresses “those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (I Cor 1: 2). Indeed, Christians are already saints because Baptism unites them to Jesus and to his Paschal Mystery, but at the same time they must become so by conforming themselves every more closely to him.” (emp added)

Like someone else here said, focus on God’s Mercy, while doing what is in our power to avoid sins. (We cannot avoid all venial sins.) We will always be imperfect in this world, but we can depend on Mary, who is perfect, and on Jesus Christ, who is perfect and is God

It is the Holy Spirit who perfects us, we do not prefect ourselves. We are on the road to perfection if we follow the words of Christ: “Love God with your whole heart and soul, and love your neighbor as your self” As we do our best, we will do things we must overcome, eg. selfishness, anger. In co-operation with an informed conscience by Christian teaching, we correct ourselves in our actions, and with the strength of the Sacraments, especially Holy Communion the Holy Spirit advances us. As long as we live, this will be our continual challenge. Do not strive for perfection, let God take care of that, just seek to do His Will, and to love. Let Christ take you to Heaven, put the burden on Him and not on yourself
