How do we define freedom?

Religions are not man-made; as written in the Catechism, “the desire for God is written on the human heart”. God has gently (and not so gently) intervened throughout history to reveal to us the Truth and religion is an organic development of that revelation and salvation. Religion is as much man-made as the planets and stars and fish in the sea are man-made. All of this has been given to us for stewardship. It is up to humans to safeguard the Deposit of Faith (Catholic doctrine) or pervert it to something unrecognizable (Protestantism, paganism, atheism).

The “Catholic God” has a monopoly because He is the only one who shows up to the voting booth - none of the others actually exist.

The “Catholic God” reveals Himself plainly every day at Mass. 🙂

They exist for their followers in the same way that your God exists to you.

Really? They came to earth, died for their sins, and rose again from the dead, and were attested to in writing by thousands of witnesses? 😉

Whether someone believes in God is not relevant. God is. You may choose to dull your mind and deny the truth, but that does not change anything at all. You may deny belief in gravity, but fall off a cliff when stepping into thin air. You may decide to believe in things that are not true, that is irrelevant. You list yourself as “raised Catholic”, so I am guessing you are in a rebellious phase of your life. I am glad you are on Catholic Answers as there is so much food for thought here. Try to keep an open mind and consider that those who post here love the Catholic faith and are pleased to share it with those who wonder or have questions that need answers. You are stating your beliefs, and I am sure that you have your reasons, but the fact remains that God created heaven and earth and all that is in it, including you, fortunately. He loves you beyond anything you could imagine and wants you to be with him now and forever. May God bless you, April!
