How do we find a baptismal certificate?

My wife and I need to get a copy of the baptisimal certificate of her ex-husband. We are looking into getting an annulment of her first marriage and will need proof that the marriage had a defect of form. (He is a Catholic and they married outside the church). We know what town he was born in and suspect he would have been baptised in the local diocese. How would we go about locating the church where he was baptised?

Dear Returning,

You need to get some idea of where he lived in the city. Otherwise, you would have to check with every parish in the city. You might check with the marriage tribunal about this. There is the outside chance that the diocese could have all this information on computer.
