How do we get permission for a Protestant to take communion?

i am catholic, my wife united. we attend catholic mass (for many years) she would very much like to take communion but does not want to convert to catholic, (mostly because of her familly,s strong ties to the united church)

I understand a letter can be obtained from the Bishop? allowing to participate in communion. What is the criteria for such a letter and how do we go about getting it.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated
