How do we know the authors of the Gospels were the real authors?
It depends what you mean by “know”. Certain knowledge is one thing, the balance of probabilities is another thing. How do we know the authors of the Gospels were the real authors?
Also depends what you mean by “real” and “authors”Joe1:

I just believe that the Bible I read today, is the Bible that God intends me to read. If God can create the universe and life, he has the power to edit the Bible in the way that he wants. How do we know the authors of the Gospels were the real authors?
Thomas is also overtly Gnostic. It’s not even transparent where it can be slightly construed to be Judean in origin. It’s got late development written all over it and just reflects the views of one fringe movement.Firstly, the surviving manuscripts (at least, the earliest ones) are named after their authors. Second, the early Church sifted through all the books being considered for canonization, accepting or rejecting them based on what was known about them. The gospels we have were accepted, and others (such as the gospel of Thomas or Mary) rejected based on (among other things) the fact that their authorship couldn’t be confirmed.
In some cases, we don’t. We don’t know who wrote Hebrews, but suspect it was Paul. How do we know the authors of the Gospels were the real authors?
