How *do *we know? Was it the result of a large consensus, the same way protestants say we have the NT, or was it a council similar to the Catholic’s conception of the NT?
So there was no official Old Testament canon even during Jesus’ times? I understand it was always inspired, however people had no certainty of it until until the Christian church council? The Church infallibly determined by council the entire canon of the Bible.
Various groups of Jews disagreed on which books were inspired. Some only accepted the first five books for example. It’s a good thing Jesus came and founded an infallible authority to clear up all the confusion. So there was no official Old Testament canon even during Jesus’ times? We don’t “know”. The canon of the bible is an article of faith. Your “knowledge” of the canon of the bible is determined by your faith in Christ’s Church having the authority (guided by the Holy Spirit) to make such a declaration. How *do *we know? Therefore the question is which books of the OT did Jesus except, thus the deuterocanonical debate. It is a good thing we have that Church.Various groups of Jews disagreed on which books were inspired. Some only accepted the first five books for example.
