What does it mean to say that Catholics are to live their vocation as both prophetic and believing?

Please help me out.

Thanks and God Bless

Catholics are to live their vocation as both prophetic and believing

What is the context for this?

I had to laugh, because I came seeking the same answer as the original poster. This was an essay question posed in an online class on the Old Testament. I thought, “What does that even mean???” And hoped to find the semblance of an answer here. Alas, just another seeker!

I will tell you what I wrote as my answer. If anyone is reading, perhaps you can tell me if I am even in the ball park. Here it goes:

The prophetic vocation that I am called to as a Catholic is to be working and contributing towards bringing the fullness of the kingdom of God about in the present world. I do so by living as an example of Christ’s presence in the world. I also live this vocation by being prepared to share the truth of God found in the scripture and liturgy. I evangelize the world around me by using every opportunity to share with others about God’s presence in this world, and in the world to come. Understanding my connection to all other people who believe in the One True God is a part of my prophetic connection. Looking towards heaven as our final goal is another large part of living my vocation prophetically.

The believing part of my vocation as a Catholic would probably be seen more in my personal relationship with God. It would be lived out in my prayer life, my worship, and my daily walk with God. I could not live out the prophetic part of my call as a Catholic if it were not undergirded by a personal faith and personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the Father/Creator, and the Holy Spirit. I am nurtured by the Eucharist, and strengthened by the Word of God both in liturgy and in my personal/private life. When my life as a believer is strong and healthy, I am more able to reach out to others in the prophetic call.

Well to me as a Catholic, I live my Faith by acting and doing my best to follow God,s Laws,by listing to the Gospel, and following what the Gospel say to the best of my abillity.By remembering that the day I was Baptised, the Holy Spirit enter me. For we all have the Holy Spirit inside of us, all we have to do is ask the Holy Spirit to help us, follow the way God wants us too.

In my experience the people who talk about living faith in a prophetic way are liberals who refer to dissent from Church teaching as being prophetic. According to them agitating for women to be priests and for contraception to be allowed are “prophetic”. They consider it “speaking truth to power”. They view the Church as a human institution and imagine that God speaks through individuals who stand up to the institution.
