I now for a fact we go to confession for this forgiveness. But can we go to God for the repentance of our Mortal Sin if we are sorry? Because, my Parish only offers confession Saturday, Wednesday or by appointment. And what if I commit a Mortal Sin on Saturday night or Sunday morning. , I want be able to take communion. [Which is no big deal to me because im not a Catholic so I cant take it.] Are you allowed to receive a blessing in the state of Mortal Sin?

Thank you!! 👍

Great Questions, and Great Move Learning as in Catacombs to be Full Catholic Easter. (1) Yes, not qualified for Eucharist, Closs arms on Shoulders, for Blessing by Priest; Ditto in Orthodox Churches. (2) Only Christ can Forgive Mortal Sins, THROUGH his Ordained Priest. Christ does All the Sacraments, ONLY through Ordained Priests. (3) If commit Mortal Sin, No Communion until Confessed, Absolved By Christ through Priest. The Cleansed of Guilt is often FELT; No sense of guilt to worry about. Many of us there!. :blessyou: And Enjoy learning the Uniquely Catholic; :bible1: FULL Living Bible Only we do, As God Intended.

Question 1: Yes, but you aren’t exactly sure if you had an act of perfect contrition.

Question 2: You can schedule an emergency appointment if you arrive early and talk to the priest.

Question 3: This should answer your question.

Just for the sake of clarity…

God can forgive sins in any way he wants. Yes, the normal way he set up for us to recieve forgiveness is through confession to a priest, but God is not limited to the sacraments.

And deacons can baptize.

If you commit a mortal sin you must go to Confession. You can not receive Communion without Confession if you have done a mortal sin, or you would commit sacrilege which is a serious (and another mortal) sin. Christ can not be united to a soul with mortal sin, and in ordinary situations Confession is how it’s forgiven.

Yes, you can receive a blessing in a state of mortal sin, and it could be beneficial in fact. 🙂

God bless!

Even if you had perfect contrition, I think the Church teaching is that you should still wait for Confession, because we can’t ever be sure if we had perfect contrition or not. **Also, perfect contrition is very very rare. **

You can receive forgiveness from God outside sacramental confession if you have perfect contrition, a firm purpose of amendment, and intend to confess the sin at the nearest opportunity. And of course ask God for that forgiveness.

Perfect contrition essentially means you are sorry for the sin primarily because it is an offence against God, not primarily out of fear of hell or disgust at the ugliness of the sin or other such good but lesser motives.

It makes sense really. If you are honestly sorry for the sin out of the best, most selfless motives, resolved never to do it again, and are not refusing to confess the sin but just haven’t had the opportunity yet, then why should God withhold forgiveness from you when you ask for it in faith, hope and love?

Even in cases like these, though, you can’t receive communion before first receiving sacramental absolution. There are two good reasons for this that I know of. One is that it can be difficult to tell if you really have perfect contrition, or if imperfect motives are the real driving force behind your apparent sorrow for having offended God. We human beings are not always very self-aware, and indeed we can foolishly attempt to deceive both ourselves and God on matters like these. Sacramental absolution gives us assurance that we are forgiven even if our contrition is imperfect (assuming we meet the other conditions for validity), removing that doubt. The other reason is that sin removes us not just from God but from the entire community of the Church, so it makes sense that before we again receive the sacrament of Communion we be reconciled to both God and the rest of the members of the Church through confessing our sins and asking forgiveness from a representative of the Church, namely the priest.

(1) Mortal Sins MUST be Confessed Through a Priest, Church Law since Earliest times.
(2) Priests are Extremly Busy. Too busy to hear One Person’s Convenience Confession, Unless Serious Emergency. He decribed Personal Convenience to Receive The Eucharist: Opposite of emergency. (3) Everybody wants to see The Priest; have to be Qualified Significant Importance to be on his Incredibly Busy Schedule. Great Question,👍 while Studying To become Catholic. The Easter Vigil has been The Most Significant Mass in The Church, since Earliest Times!

Mortal Sin MEANS waiting for personal Confession Through Priest.

The Church teaches that you can receive Communion with Perfect Contrition with a just reason like you’re nearly dead.

👍 AMEN. But Near Death Better to hope for Extreme Unction: Last Rites!. Communion Inappropriate Near Death; Higher Priorities I’ve Mentioned, Adding to your pointed Observation! About To MEET God for Final Judgement, is time for LAST Chance to Qualify to Stay With Him: Heaven, In Person. Good one, Inquiring! :D:compcoff:

Mortal sin can be forgiven via the grace of perfect contrition. However one is to still confess it prior to Communion. Also as part of perfection contrition is the intention to go to confession as soon as possible.

One can seek confession outside the scheduled times…or even “called in” appointments. Such is part of the very vocation of the Priest. Of course he may be running out the door to a dying person etc so you may have to wait a bit longer. But do not be afraid to seek out a Priest if you have so fallen.

well I mean in ordinary situations like the OP described 🙂 then, a sacramental Confession is necessary.

do you by any chance have a source for this teaching though? 🙂
I know that in life threatening situations, the priest could give a “general absolution” and then if people survive they should still go to Confession. But I don’t know if they’d be allowed to receive Communion after this “general absolution”. In addition, general absolution for non grave reasons is invalid.

An Act of Perfect Contrition will forgive mortal sins should you die before getting to Confession. However, the act of perfect contrition is conditional upon the intent to get to Confession as soon as possible. It does not permit you to receive Communion before getting to Confession. One issue I see with this anyway is how could anyone be sure they had made an act pf perfect contrition. Its not just about saying the words but sincere repentence.

Nobody should be in the Communion line unless they are able to receive.
Non-Catholics and Catholics in a state of mortal sin are to stay in their seats. Blessings are NOT permitted although misinformed and misguided people go up for blessings and suddenly put the priest on the spot by standing in front of him.

God sets The Rules, not our opinions. Know the History of the Biblically Required “Confession”, to be Worthy of Receiving Our Lord directly in the Eucharist? Then see His Requirements to be worthy: Knowing, Educated Catholic, and Free of Death in God Sins God requires. In 1 Timothy 3:15, God Teaches Who has His Truth on Earth: The Apostles, now known as The Magisterium. We don’t set The Rules unless we think we are superior to God. If we think our opinion is superior to God’s And His Churches, we are not even Cathoklic; we Are Heretics. And rather Proud that we are better than God. Not nice Future: “Depart from Me; I knew ye Not” But we said “Lord, Lord”. “Depart: I knew Ye not”. :hey_bud::hey_bud::hey_bud: God’s Opinion counts more than Ours. THat’s Exactly Why Hades was Created; Only for Those attitudes. Heard of Satan?:confused:

That is 100% Opposite of USA and other regions Catholic Bishops Conference Written, Published Norms. At each Funeral Mass I usher or attend, The Priest and Program State that anyone is Invited to be in line with hands crossed on shoulders to receive Blessing from the Priest. Come to think of it, Ditto at the Vatican Papal Masses, World Youth Day. Sure in the Phillipines people are forbiden-to/stay in Seats; No Blessing? I suggest Canon Law provides for Blessing, at least option. Priests know to feel honored at opportunity to give Blessing, if conditions permit.

Is it true that people go up for blessings at Vatican papal masses and World Youth Day? If that is the case, no wonder a lot of parishes allow this.

Because it is Catholic Church Policy, visible on EWTN Masses, When Conditions permit: The Size of attendance. Great opportunity to Evangelize.
