How do we refute the Koran?

I have a Muslim friend who is open to Christianity. We have been discussing some things and he sent me a link to a video which details how human embryology was revealed in the Koran.

He maintains that this is an example of how the Koran was revealed by God. There is another example in this video series where the Koran talks about sea creatures that were not discovered until recently.

How do I refute these claims?

The Catholic Church fully accepts that other religions can contain parts of the truth within them. Buddhism realizes the fleeting nature of material things, which is true, Judaism believes in the God of Abraham which is true, even Zoroastrianism believes in good and evil. So if there’s something true in another religion, it should come as no surprise to a Catholic.

Now, what needs refuting, is that which contradicts Catholic truth.

He’s starting out from the belief that the Qur’an is divinely inspired, that he might use science to prove the Qur’an is divinely inspired.

Exactly.

And there’s nothing wrong with that, since he’s a believer – but you don’t have to accept that premise, since you don’t assume the Qur’an is divinely inspired.

Muslims believe that every people have had a prophet, so the Popuh Vuh would not be a problem.

Muslims are pretty much in line with the Old Testament. It is Jesus as the Son of God they don’t buy off on. Or so said a Muslim who visited a small church group once, after
9-11.

Undiscovered sea creatures? What does that even have to do with either religion? New species are found all the time.

No. Without seeing the real data, I would sayd that that is impossible.

You know, people see things in the Bible too: Jesus was represented as being married to Mary Magdalene, having brothers and sisters, the Cathedral of Kohln, Germany, was and is bring built to harbor the relics of the Magi, S. James in Compostela the same, I was told that when someone collected the relics of the teeth of St. Barbara (or any other), he collected some hundreds of teeth.

The famous and beautiful tale of the Holy Grail and King Arthur were so born.

There are writers who nowadays are getting rich inventing the devil about the Gospels and I refrain to say their names for it would get a tiny little bit of publicity.

The Koran would suffer the same influence.

To see such refined science in Koran you would have to prove with real data, bringing the text where the data is. And nothing is brought, just someone’s conclusion. But I want to see the text, and where are the facts. But it is forbidden to translate the text or to use it translated. So, there is no proof.

Moreover to think that God inspired it as a science book is not credible. So why embryology and not all the science? Why not the cure for AIDS or HIV?

My opinion: I do not go at all for that, I cannot accept that.

I have a decent bit of experience with debating Muslims. The main tactic I’ve noticed is relying on the difficulty of translating between Arabic and English. There are quite a few translations of the Koran, and Muslims invariably pick the translation that most benefits their argument. As an example, see my posts on another forum.

All I need to know to reject the Koran, is that it says Jesus was not Crucified, Tell me, how does some merchant 600 years after the fact know something that people 600 years earlier did not. It takes a willful suspension of disbelief to believe Jesus was not crucified as the Koran says. Even extra biblical sources attest to this.
