How do we wash a shirt splashed with the precious blood?

What is the appropriate way to clean a shirt that has sacramental wine spilled on the front. We know there is a sink in the sacristy that drains into the ground. We believe Jesus is present body, blood, soul and divinity and want to do the right thing in cleaning the shirt… we did not realize until the next morning and the shirt spent the night in the hamper… what is the proper way to handle the shirt until it is clean? This is a teaching moment for us and for our son, thanks for your help.

Hi,

Simply rinse it in a bowl of cold water until the stain is gone. Then pour the water out onto the ground. Then wash the shirt as you normally would.

When the appearance of the Precious Blood is that of dried wine, the real presence is gone. But out of respect we still don’t pour it in the sewer.
