It depends on what type of Catholic apologetics you are doing
There are all types
You will find that Orthodox Jewish understand Catholic theology, scripture and liturgy better than Protestants for the simple reason that they have created something very different from the original authentic Christianity
Fundamentalists as you mentioned are the easiest because the Sacred Tradition of Catholicism was in place hundreds of years before the bible that was written by Catholics and met it’s final publication
For Fundamentalist contestations addressing them on their terms of scripture alone
It can be done Even though our Faith and the Word of God is not scripture alone The Word of God is Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture wedded together and inseparable without damage
However each one of our doctrines can be laid out in proof text using the scriptures of Old and New Testament Judao-Christian tradition without issue - ALL OF THEM

I would recommend you read books by Authors like Karl Keating and Scott Hahn
There is a book called a Biblical Defense of Catholicism by Dave Armstrong another called The Crucified Rabbi by Taylor Marshal
and another excellent book called Born Fundamentalist Born Again Catholic by David Curie that you can introduce them to at some point
When you are ready to begin researching the Liturgy
The Spirit of the Liturgy by our Holy Father is excellent
When you are ready for something heavier Alice and Dietrich Von Hildebrand will bring you into Catholic theology and philosophy at a collegiate level
Karl Keating once said that if wanted to get serious about Apologetics it would take years of prayer and study not to mention finances to build a small apologetics library and to prepare oneself like a warrior would do preparing for battle

Harder is gnosticism, neo-paganism and free- masons since they are all converging their theologies into that of a one world religion fueled by institutions like the U.N.

We are all saved by God’s Grace to which we all agree
How that Grace is administered and maintained is where the roads immediately part
Christianity was and is established and maintained via a “Theocracy”

Their theology is a very new Christianity only several hundred years old
It was invented via socio political economic movement whereby Protestants broke away from Protestants and formed theology, doctrines and and their statements of faith via the invention of “Christian democracy” or by the vote of the men of fallen creation
And it’s methods greatly diminish the role of the Old Testament to the point whereby they are carrying around a book that is too heavy for them whereby they do not believe the majority of it (the Old Testament) is in affect any longer
But as we know Jesus said “Not one iota of the law will pass away until all of it is fulfilled”
Their’s is a Christianity without an authority system other than personal interpretation of scripture but 2 Peter 1:20 says that there is no personal interpretation of scripture
It has become evident these days to many holy and righteous seeking Protestant people having converted or in the process of converting ( because of their love of God and the love of Truth) that Protestantism is a failed experiment
The moral relativism is clearly the fruit of the test of the spirit
85% of all Protestant assemblies approval of abortion is certain circumstances despite scriptures that call it murder and birth is from conception
Over 50% of all Protestant assemblies now approve of gay unions and the number is climbing
Apologetics ?!
Q. What will it take
In their Assemblies over the next decade when Euthanasia is voted in as well as Polygamy “in certain circumstances”
Will people come by the millions into the Mother Church or will only the people that can really see what is going on in machine of the “Matrix” continue to come in smaller numbers by the thousands
These assemblies will release more “new” interpretations of scriptures with more moral relativism to justify why the Lord wouldn’t want them in pain…etc…
One thing that you can be sure of with Protestantism there is always something new coming despite the scripture from them

With a more charitable heart and a more generous spirit and with that agape love that Lord will continue to work on us towards that end and we will share truth
