How do you Catholics meditate?

We don’t meditate like the Eastern Religions do.

What is your idea of how a catholic meditates?

That’s the first thing to clear up.
 
One meditates int he presence of the Blessed Sacrament at Adoration.
One meditates when reflecting on the Life and Passion of Jesus.
One meditates while praying for loved ones.
One meditates when we unite ourselves with Our Lady in various prayers.

No special positions, no mandatory places, no one to tell you what you are doing is wrong.
 
I’ve been to Ávila! It’s close to the capital of Spain where I live!!
 
Pretty much like a Buddhist but thinking of Jesus or some bible passage or some experience or whatever you think brings you closer to God
 
Lucky 🙂 have you visited her convent before? I would love to one day.

Oh you should visit so many places in Spain… I’m Spanish and there’s still so much I haven’t seen.

Didn’t go to the convent but I did go to the Ávila cathedral. I’m afraid I did not know who Santa Teresa was until I went to Ávila and found out 😂

I think there are several methods of Lectio Divina which is reading a few passages from scripture and meditating on what it means. The Rosary is kind of a meditation with scripture since usually there is a biblical passage before each mystery.

As promised, here’s a couple of links to meditation type stuff I have used:

I’ve used Sister Lucia’s method to meditate on the “Rosary Mysteries” (which are all events in the lives of Mary and Jesus) without using the Rosary. Like I said I have to do this at least once a month for 15 minutes on First Saturday.

I also really like the meditations on this site. You can use them while saying the Rosary, or without. I used this page yesterday to do my first Saturday meditation. This page is for the Nativity mystery but they have one for every mystery (20 in all) and a page where people can add their own meditations. You just scroll down the page, read each one and think about them. There are so many that if you don’t like one or find it not helpful, you can just scroll to the next one.

Sometimes I just use a video. Youtube has lots of them.


Here’s a method of meditating in Adoration. One of the chapels I go to has a bunch of copies of this, or something very similar, on a table near the entrance so you can just take one and follow it to meditate during your Adoration time.

There are lots and lots of these types of materials free online. Catholic bookstores also often have little inexpensive books of meditations.

The ohm thing is more Hindu but I get your point.

Think about some great mystery of God and pray.
 
And for where to buy one and how much they cost—I was going to make a stupid joke about them being very expensive and rare.

The fact is, they can be made of cheap plastic beads, like a child’s costume jewelry, and they can be made of precious jewels.

There are actually stores in the U.S. called Catholic stores that sell all sorts of Catholic religious items. I’ve never bought a rosary despite having several around the house. They’re frequently given away by church organizations, and as gifts.
 
I live in Spain and I’ve never seen those Catholic stores (oh these agnostic times!) but I’ve been told it’s likely I’ll find one in my local parish
 
You ought to be able to get a free one from almost churches. I know mine has a huge box for RCIA and stuff, all of them already blessed.
 
They’ve already been blessed by a priest. You don’t have to have it blessed buy I’d recommend it.
 
I think there is also an indulgence, especially for the dying, just looking at the crucifix.
 
Just sitting there letting yourself silently become aware of the presence of God in the present moment is both meditation and prayer.
