When confronted with something that goes against The Church’s teachings, and the law, how do you chose?

Let us say that you have knowledge of someone that is going to have an abortion, yet you are in a profession that you are bound by law not to say anything, what do you do?

As a devout catholic, do you tell someone that can posible stop the murder of an unborn child, or do you stay quiet so as not to possibly suffer legal action?

Sadly enough, there is no one that can stop anyone from having an abortion since it is legal and there are all kinds of laws protecting a mother’s “right” to kill her own child.

The only thing you can really do in this situation is talk to the person and try to convince them not to.

if you are in medical profession or otherwise professionally obliged to advise the person in this situation, you are also professionally obliged to give them all the facts on whatever procedure they are considering, including abortion, including dangers, risks and side effects, physical, psychological, emotional etc. including those that are generally hidden by many professionals.

So is there anything in scriptures that refers to us being bound by what is legal and what is moral? How does God judge you in this case?

Hello,Please read CCC.#1901,1902,19031921,1929,1930.May I also suggest reading 2Mac.6:18-31.May the Lord be with you and give you wisdom.

That would be for the States. If you live in another country, be sure to check the laws carefully.

Some countries have ruled that doctors cannot say things such as “baby” or give details about the life of a preborn child.

Interestingly this is to protect other doctors who didn’t want to in the first place. The doctor tells the woman “its” a blob of tissue, the woman aborts, then goes to a hospital needing surgery from a botched abortion, the nurse mentions a “baby”. Whammo, lawsuit.
