How do you convert to Catholicism?

I’ve been thinking very seriously about this. I’m just not completely sure how…Also, do you have to be a certain age? Or can you be any age?

Contact the local Catholic parish in your community. Talk to the priest or the coordinator for the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults). The process depends upon several factors including whether or not you are already baptized, etc.

As for age, if a person is a minor the priest will give you guidance. Those over the age of reason (7) are considered to be adults as far as asking for and receiving baptism, but in the case of a minor whose parents object to them being received into the Church, the priest will likely want to take a pastoral approach and discuss the situation.

There’s a process called Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults that’s designed for converts. Call the closest parish and ask someone about RCIA. Or check the parish website, if it looks like it’s up-to-date. Parish websites that have the bulletins online are the best, if the bulletins are recent, because they will have schedules and contacts for RCIA in them.

There’s an even easier way if you know a practicing Catholic. Tell him or her you want to convert. They should have an idea who to contact, and you might just have your sponsor from the get-go!
