How do you correct someone without sounding harsh and self-righteous?

For instance, if somebody swears and you just told them ‘‘STOP SWEARING! It is wrong!’’ there is a 85% chance they’re not gonna listen and possibly persist in their actions. How do you correct someone without sugar coating your message and without sounding like a self-righteous Pharisee?

I don’t know what you mean when you say swearing since saying certain exclamations that we think of explicit in English really aren’t and in fact Saint Paul used the Greek equivalent of one of them. I think it’s hard to correct someone in that situation because they might not know what they are doing wrong and it might actually not be something wrong one thing I know is wrong is when people use the Lord’s name in vain and I get so sick of that one

If you think strongly that the one swearing needs correction above all you must exercise charity in any case. If you come across with anger this connotes hatred and the response will be negative. And if you do get angry this will put you In the position of being self-righteous. One can not give what he doesn’t have, knowledge or grace. You don’t know the person’s state of mind. You may try to reason in a friendly tone, especially if he is profaning the name of Jesus Christ You can tell him you find it offensive, and that you would appreciate if he would stop swearing. If he continues, just walk away.
