How do you describe "spirit"?

In Scripture there are several passages which are very important to faith and which use that word:

Examples:

• When Jesus said that his words are ‘spirit’ what did he mean exactly?
• When he said that true worshipers worship in truth and "spirit"…
• Etc

I have somehow a understanding which I am not sure I can describe…Does any one have good descriptive words for more light?

When Jesus said that his words are ‘spirit’ what did he mean exactly?

When Jesus said that his words were spirit and life, I think he meant that his words about eating his flesh and drinking his blood were from the Spirit of God (inspired), concerned a spiritual truth, a spiritual reality, which only spiritual people (people with faith) can accept, and those who do accept his words and are obedient to them to the end will inherit eternal life.

Consider the Sacrament of Baptism. To an unspiritual person, who does not see with the eyes of faith but only with the eyes of the flesh, the waters of baptism just get people wet. However, to the spiritual person, the waters of baptism are regenerative, in them people are spiritually born again, their past sins are forgiven, and they receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Consider the Sacrament of the Eucharist. To an unspiritual person, the Eucharist is just a little bread and wine. However, to the spiritual person, the Eucharist is the body and blood of the Lord.

In John 6, Jesus was speaking specifically about the Sacrament of the Eucharist.

In this case, I think spirit means interiorly, from the heart, and not merely going through external motions or merely paying lip service. It could also refer to being open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit while worshipping.
