Apparent Contradictions in the Bible
I enjoyed hearing Dr. Tim Gray speak this week on the radio, but unfortunately I was unable to call in with my issue. I’m leading the CSS study of Hebrews at my parish. We were all stumped by Hebrews 6:4-6. Although there might not be a direct contradiction to it in the Bible, certainly our Catholic teachings differ from what it says.
“For it is impossible to restore again to repentance those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they then commit apostasy, since they crucify the Son of God on their own account and hold him up to contempt.”
My response to the class was to never underestimate the magnitude of God’s mercy.
