I’m not sure if I’m putting this in the correct spot, but I thought this one seemed to be the best as far as I could tell. I have some ways that I’ve come to think about prayer and God and the Saints- I thought it might be a kind of neat discussion to see how others think about Prayer and God.
When I was younger, there was a prayer I made up and it always made/makes me feel a little less anxious when I say it:

My Lord and My God,
My Love and My Life,
Don’t Leave me here all alone,
Cradle me in Your Arms,
Hole me in Your Heart,
Until You Bring me Home.

I guess God helped me to make this up when I was younger - I’m not actually sure what requirements there are for words to be a “Prayer”,officially -
I know that The Bible says something about Where two or more are gathered there am I - I know I’m paraphrasing - but with this forum - it’s not just two that are praying, it’s a lot more - and I like to think of it like a door in my mind - You’re praying - that’s one voice or knock on the one side of the door trying to get the Lord to Hear your prayers - but with others praying - there’s a lot more noise - I know (rather I believe) that God doesn’t eventually want us to necessarily shut up but sometimes I think of Him maybe saying - O.K. - O.K. - I get it already - When you begin to ask for intercession from Saints, with this too - I kind of think of it like - maybe they’re on the other side of the door with God, kind of needling Him saying - come on now, She really is trying now… I’m aware that God does answer all prayers - but in His time - I’m reminded of that joke about the man asking God if a million dollars was like a penny to Him and God said yes, it was so the man tried to be clever and said, “Well God, then can you please give me a million dollars” and God responds, “in a second…”

I assume my ideas of how I picture prayer are extremely unorthodox - but I’m only human and can’t begin to understand The Mind of God - I hope some others will talk about how they think of Prayer.

God Bless-

Prayer is conversation. You talking to God. You listening to God. I am finding that my own words move me more than the prayers we are all familiar with. Yes, I pray the Rosary and several Chaplets, but I enjoy sitting in front of the Blessed Sacrament and in my own words (thoughts) talking to God, and taking lot’s of time to listen.

As for the prayer you wrote, that is beautiful.

It’s true, prayer is conversation with God. I’ve been praying for many years now, and I probably don’t go much more than 5 minutes without talking to God. Sometimes I’ll talk for hours non-stop. I can sit in the middle of the forest and will talk to God for hours as well. Now, I’m not any holier than the next, but I think that my background in the Orthodox Church probably helped me. I think that Archbishop Bloom had a lot to do with that. So, I talk and listen, and talk, and listen, …

I agree with all of the posts so far regarding prayer. However, over the past year or so my praying has revolved around the Magnificat. I just love that little, monthly prayer book.

Over the past two months I have really gotten into the Psalms. The Psalms are such beautiful prayers.

I definitely need to do more listening to God in my praying time. I also pray while driving to work every day.
