Just as the title describes. Do you hold in one hand, or both? Dominant hand, or other?
When driving, for me it is usually both hands on the wheel, with rosary in left hand thumb and forefinger, with other three wrapped around the wheel. (I’m right handed, though never tried that way)
I’ve seen one handed. Beads being pulled across the palm from the back of the hand. (Hand through the rosary). One hand holding “the outside” of the loop. And finally, the two handed: one hand pulls the beads, the other holds the remainder. Either grip used.
Which do you do?

I usually pray the rosary while driving, so I use my right hand. When standing at times, I will use my right hand but keep my hands together lowered. I’ll keep it in my right hand while waiting for confession sometimes. Also when kneeling in the pew I will do what I do standing with my hands on the pew.

I cannot hold beads and drive at the same time. I’ve tried but it did not work.
Rosary goes around my neck or my wrist, I count prayers on my fingers by tapping them on the wheel.

When not using my hands to drive or do something else, then I alternate hands, usually dominant hand but i will shift it to the other from time to time.

I used to pray the rosary with my fingers! But I stopped because sometimes I forget so easily which finger I was on. I got to have my thumb on a bead to know where Im at. Sometimes I can do a decade while working, but I drive a decent time to work where I can pray while driving 🙂

I never was the one to wear a rosary on my neck 😦 any jewelry or rings in that matter, I just keep it in my pocket always.

I’m left handed. I pray the rosary using both hands. I can’t use the rosary while driving. So I don’t count. Too dangerous.

I use both hands while waiting for mass to begin. I will pray it tonight after reading the bible.

Frankly, when you are driving nothing should be in your hands except the steering wheel. Anything else is dangerous.

I don’t think I would ever pray the Rosary while driving. Usually I will hold the Rosary with 2 hands.

Yes, good point. My drive is very quiet. I live very rural, and many days my entire 20 mile route at 4am, I see no other vehicles. Sometimes see a few on the last couple miles of highway. By that time, I’m somewhere in the “hail holy queen” part, or finished. Other stretches are long, sweeping curves. I’m more likely to see a deer than anything else. Also, I drive slower than the limit because of that part. If weather is being difficult, I just drive. On the way home, no.
At home, usually one handed, while sitting outside with my hair sheep. I sit on a camping pad, and they gather around me, lie down, and chew while I recite. Often, I have one leaning against me. Pet on one with one hand, beads in the other. Wonderfully peaceful. (They inspected the beads the first few times to make sure they weren’t food. They are sheep of course)

I usually pray kneeling, holding the bead I’m on between my right (primary) thumb and index finger holding the weight of the rosary/ the next bead in with my left hand, feeding them to the right. Sometimes I’ll hold the crucifix in my hand while moving along the beads.

Usually with both hands, my dominant hand caring for the beads that are spent and my other hand caring for the beads yet to come. This attracts the attention of toddlers, and I have to be willing to release it at any moment. Tug of wars lead to a lot of breaks and explosions, so I let go and use my fingers to count after they run off with it.

It still counts.

It’s prayer and if you make a mistake it’s no big deal.

The only time I prayed the rosary while driving was when I lived in a city that had a Catholic radio station and they would broadcast the rosary over the air. I would pray along with the radio. No need for beads.

One can certainly pray while driving, but the question of praying the rosary while driving is an interesting one. Given the rosary’s meditational dimension, how can one lift one’s heart and mind to God in meditation of the Mysteries, while they are necessarily to be lifted up to the potential “mysteries” of traffic, pedestrians, and street lights?

Hence, my clarification.

The way some people drive, it gets the rosaries out of the pockets of their passengers.

It is possible to recite the Rosary while driving. You have ten fingers on the steering wheel; you don’t need beads. I also know people who use the rosary rings; it is a ring with ten high spots and one different spot that they wear on their finger and move with their thumb. It’s not dangerous.

I make rosaries. Have made a few finger, and larger bead decade ones as well. I like the original design. I just might buy a ring rosary or three. I like the feel of wood beads though.
