I am always puzzled by this concept of … umm… “One day the spirit came to me and gave me inspiration”. I feel, know and experienced God’s response to my prayers, but never really “I would/want you to do this”.

And obviously it is not just about one thing. There are many, like priesthood, career, evangelistion, family choices, Uni course, and many other things as well.

Help?

Many times I am confused and hoping for help, but other times I find myself doing things without hesitation. Later I think of my actions and understand that I was reacting spontaneously to inner directions. I don’t hear a voice, but I act on clear knowledge that I should be doing this. I imagine my Guardian Angel has a lot to do with just “knowing things” rather than hearing implicit directions.

There are two clear signs, that the message is from God:

1./ It makes you humble, to understand one’s insufficiency.

2./ The Church approves it

This is why the solid teaching of the Church is that the vocation is when the bishop calls the candidate.

*How does God speak to me?
Well I tried to figure it out but I couldn’t and it was driving me nuts trying to.
So I just let it go and accept that He just does.
In His own way He lets me know…and it is in the knowing that He does speak to me.
I just believe in and somehow know, whether I experience anything spiritual or not, that He is just there. It is in this knowing that I hear Him. Not in any inspirations or consolations but in the knowing even when the inspirations and consolations are not there.
I personally believe that when God sends me a consolation or inspiration it usually means there is work ahead…almost like my husband giving me a kiss and a hug before he says, “oh, by the way”…I so hope and pray this makes sense.

I do believe though that if I could describe it… it would be that He talks to me in the most subtle of ways.
A line from a song…something someone says…something I read or… just the way the sun is shining in the sky…or through a sunrise or sunset…He really and truly is all around us.
I believe we just need to always be aware of His presence, weather we sense it or not.
He is there and He does speak to us and I am just content knowing I am in His Loving and Merciful presence…*

While He can use desires, that isn’t necessarily a clear cut sign because even the evil one can do that.

Look to the prophets. Often a clear calling meant the prophet’s first reaction was “No, God, not me!”

If that’s your reaction to something and it is within Church teachings to do it, it might just be God calling.

Are you asking this just for information or do you have something specific in your life that you are wondering about?

Thanks. Yeah I am asking for information in general, but I do want to make the right choice now as to which Uni and course I should enroll myself to.

If you’re like me, that will be much more difficult to discern. For things like that I pray a lot and trust that I do not go against God’s will and try to trust that my willingness to be where He wants me to be will put me in that place.

It is very possible that there are many options for this that He would be OK with.

A Priest once told me that GOD answers all prayers, although sometimes the answer is no. Its a short sentence - but do you see the wisdom in it. GOD is always speaking to us. Every time. Its up to us to preceive the answer.

The only way God speaks to you is by your conscience. Sad to say but everytime you do wrong you hear his voice. When you do right he lets you continue in your path. God speaks by feedback not by feed forward.

No, you are mistaken. Your conscience is only one way that God speaks to you. There are many other ways. God chooses His way to let you know what He is saying. Sometimes He speaks in human voice. I had this rare privilege once. Sometimes He sends His angels with His word. Sometimes you know exactly what He wants. You can’t explain it, but you know with certainty. However He chooses to speak , He leaves no doubt that He has spoken.

God speaks through many ways, some of them too subtle for us to notice. When it comes to vocation, it is through our feelings. It’s hard to explain how it feels, but when one feels called to something there is (at least in my experience) this overwhelming sense of “rightness.” Other options in life may seem appealing, but none of them will have that feeling. It is hard to explain in words, but when you feel it, you will understand.
