How Do You Know If God Is Speaking To You?

Have you ever had a situation where you thought God was speaking to you and you didn’t know if it was a coincidence or not? If so, please share them.

Here’s a wierd experience that I had:

After stressing out about my marriage problems, I call off of work and struggle for almost two hours as to whether to go to confession after two years. In the reconciliation chapel, a stranger approaches me and says he recognizes me from my parish. He then asks me what time confession was and then he leaves abruptly because he thought that it was at 12:00 instead of 1:00.

I know that God speaks to people all the time when they listen, but that experience scared me and made me seriously think what I am called to do.

It’s overwhelming when you finally recognize God’s presence in your life…but it’s very comforting to me. God only wants what is best for you & I and He has the bigger picture. Sometimes what He wants us to do is daunting…like Noah building an ark! But what majesty and grace resulted! Trust God always! It’s called a leap of faith!

Confession is a very blessing and wonderful Sacrament.
We go to confess not just to ask God to forgive our sins, but to ask Him to help you become Holy.

We know that everything takes time, we shouldn’t expect to change and become a holy person overnight. It can take years and years.

Going to confession is surely help you change for better.

I believe God always speaks to us. God likes to talk to His beloved. It is us who have problem to hear or to respond.

For me, if I wasn’t sure God said something, I’d rather do it, just in case, especially if I were in a praying mode. For example, when I spend too much time on CAF, I may have a nudge in heart that I should get off. I wasn’t sure if the impression was from my own thinking or from the Holy Spirit, I still will get off and move on to other things. Or, if I felt kind of lazy to drive to church to fulfill my daily adoration, then I heard “If you go, you won’t regret.” I wasn’t sure that’s my own thought or if I heard God’s voice. I would go anyway to make sure I obey Him, just in case it was His voice.

Sometimes I can hear God’s word with no mistake. For example, there was one time on a supermarket check out line, the person in front of me was so fuzzy and took all the time she could to double check the price of every item, and carefully compare a list she printed from online in advance. I was so annoyed, and was going to show my impatience. I immediately heard “Don’t you come to me for repentance later.” I quickly stopped the desire of rolling my eyes. I was very sure that’s God’s voice because the impression came to me without my own thinking.

When my pastor called people to volunteer, I felt God was calling me so I stepped forward. For couple occasions, it later confirmed that indeed was my call.

If I were in your particular situation, I would think this:
There is some problem in marriage, and both parties have room to grow and improve. It is God’s will for us to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. And that Sacrament is way overdue. God even send somebody to bring up the word of “confession” as a reminder. What am I waiting for?

I was agonizing over a situation, whether to say something to someone or not. It had the potential to rupture an important relationship if it went wrong, which was highly likely, but I still felt that I had some responsibility. It had been going on for days, and there was a kind of deadline looming for a decision. I met a friend for lunch (which we had initially thought would have to be cancelled) and told her a little about the situation, and she told me she had once had something similar, and a priest we both knew and respected greatly (so does the Church - he’s now a Bishop) had told her one should never say anything in this situation! Peace just flooded over me. I knew it was a message directly from God. Later that day, I realized I was relaxed for the first time in a long time - so much so that I felt tired and sleepy instead of keyed up and worried. Thank you, God!

A number of years ago when my husband and I were having some marital tension I was driving to work praying. “Heal my marriage, change him”

All of a sudden the words came out of my mouth, NO. Heal my marriage, change ME.

I think God was telling me I was asking the wrong questions. Not
to ask for my husband to do do things differently, but to ask how can I do things differently. I started doing some serious work to chang my own attitudes, my own actions, and my expectations of him. He still isn’t perfect, but neither am I, and we just celebrated our 25th anniversary together.

God is speaking to you whenever anything good comes to you either in the thoughts of your mind or by the words or actions of other people as only good can come from God and all good proceeds from God.

It is the Holy Spirit that illuminates all good to be known as good and all evil to be known as evil.

Confession is good.
