How do we know anybody? We spend time with that person.
We may well know about a person who is famous by reading about him in the newspaper, or in a biography. To know the person, however, we must first meet him/her.
How do we meet Jesus? We spend time in prayer, and we ask Him into our hearts. We ask to be empowered by the Holy Spirit as we surrender our lives to His will. This last part, for a secular person is the most difficult since it requires an act of faith, a response to the Faith which God has already given us as a gift. It is a statement of belief that God will give His Holy Spirit to all who ask.
