I talk to her the way I would talk to somebody that I can 100% trust in, who will not judge me, but only love me and heal me. This often happens at night. There is nobody on Earth I can talk to the way I can talk to somebody in Heaven. I know she loves me more than I know and when I get to Heaven I am going brush her hair between my fingers and kiss her feet, and I’m going to live with her forever.
Yes, Mary is like water that perfectly purifies all our prayers and good works.

St. Therese of Lisieux wrote a poem called, “Why I love You, O Mary” which expresses much of my own thoughts and my love as well. It was the last poem she wrote and she put her heart into it. See HERE. Hope her words can help.
You’ve received a ton of replies already, but each of Mary’s children is the unique person God created. No two are exactly alike ; each is unique and unrepeatable from the Hand of God.
Some of us may have grown up in Catholic Schools or in homes where Mary was loved and we almost “breathed in” that love from Baptism to this day. Some of us may have read something from a saint, or met a person who helped them by word or example to hear Jesus say on Calvary: “Behold Your Mother” and like John and we took her home.
Little Therese also said: “Everything is Grace!” We can do nothing without God, so if you really want to know and love Mary our Mother, ask God for His Grace to love her – that is a grace He wants to give. Jesus told us: “Ask and you shall receive…”. By grace, we can learn to love as He loves. Thanks for asking.

I have grown up in Catholic schools and in a home where Mary was loved, that’s kind of the reason why I am confused. I feel like there’s this “How to not be a tragic catholic” manual I’m missing out on?
She is just a human to me. A wonderful human that helped us all, but that’s about it. I know about her being the new “Eve” and stuff like that, but I have no emotional connection at all. Zilch. Praying to her seems as useful as talking to a wall. I don’t know if it’s also because I still hold resentment to God in the first place and hence some towards Mary. People keep telling me to pray to Mary to get over it and when I tell them that I can’t, they tell me to pray to God and I’m just a mess here
This has been going on for a really, really long time. I’m just sick of it because nothing has changed. And when it seem to have changed, it’s because it has gotten worse.
We have libraries but they don’t have religious books I believe. If there is, it’s usually just the bible or something.Lea, many early Church writings should be available for free on the Internet because they aren’t subject to copyright. Let me take a look through my study guide later today and I’ll see what particular authors come up.
Does Singapore have free libraries? I’ve done a ton of reading this way, even Catholic books (we have interlibrary loan, so even if it’s not at my community library I can still get it). There’s also a couple parishes with libraries. Or you could informally borrow a book from your priest or parish staff. Call and say you want to learn more about Mary. Every priest I’ve known well has a lot of books.

I think that’s good advice. Emotions are part of who we are. And it’s difficult when we don’t feel any consolation. But as St. Maximilian Kolbe said about devotion to Mary, we should never worry if we do not feel this love. What matters is our loving will.

So I can readily identify with Mary. She’s our mother. I also AM a mother.

She loves. I’ve always loved her because my mother revered her so, and I grew up in a Marian dedicated parish. She seems so much more approachable than the stern looking portrayals of God the Father, for example.
Also, the Gospels portray Christ as our brother. It all makes perfect sense to me.

At the foot of the cross our Lord Jesus Christ gave us His mother when He said to John “…behold thy mother…” and he said to Mary, “…behold thy son.”
Yes, and even before that, Mary warmly consented to bear us in her womb from the moment of the Incarnation.
