How do you make a Vow to God, I mean like do you have to actually say it or just by thinking?

Once I made promise but when I was daydreaming and i think it’s something that very big that I can’t accomplish. Is that a Vow or not?

Daydreaming? Probably more of a “if I could” wish. A vow would be a lot more emphatic and leave no room for doubt!

what do you mean by emphatic and leave no room for doubt?
and what are conditions for vow?
Do you have to say it aloud or do you just think about it?

I think you have to make it in front of an icon or in church even if you just think it. If you are in doubt pray to Jesus to forgive you of your promise that you can’t keep. And maybe ask Him to inspire you to a newer promise that He considers doable for you.

Private vows are not something to be made lightly. Should only be considered after consultation with one’s pastor.

You would consciously say to yourself and to God, “I promise I will do this…” it doesn’t have to be out loud.
But you will know you meant it as a promise to God!

It sounded like your original musings (daydreaming) wasn’t really thought out and directed to God as a promise…

I could be wrong.

So you consider it as promise?
I thought that If I made mortal sins i would burn in hell
I’m afraid that one day I broke the vow and can’t be saved

Dictionary definitions…
a solemn promise.
synonyms:
oath, pledge, promise, bond, covenant, commitment, avowal, profession, affirmation, attestation, assurance, guarantee; word, word of honor;

“a vow of silence”
a set of promises committing one to a prescribed role, calling, or course of action, typically to marriage or a monastic career.

Yes, it is a promise. For example, you might now VOW that in the future, you will be much more careful with making vows!

No I don’t think that.

Example alcoholics that vow to God they will never drink again early in their addiction. Then they drink the next day when they feel better and forget about them. God sometimes slowly leads them on a path of self discovery and then they get sober and enough grace to fulfill that and stay sober.

Or example God I promise I’ll do this or that if you bring my ex girlfriend back. Sometimes he won’t and person realizes their girlfriend was really bad for us.

It’s ok to make mistakes and God knows what is best for us. He is a loving father not a cruel taskmaster.

I know I can be a bit old-school and fire and brimstone with theology. But God loves us. Like I said before the very fact that you are even worried about little things like this means that you are sensitive to your relationship with him and that you care and he is sustaining you with grace. He is responsible to sustain you that you can even be sorry.

It’s the people that simply don’t care that should worry.

It’s ok to grow in devotion but don’t put so much expectation on perfection until you conquer bigger things.

No, that’s not how God works…from what I have learned in 60 plus years. You can always be saved!

The thing with vows is, make sure they are for BIG things so you can keep track of them! Like marriage vows - Celibacy vows (priests) things like that. Make sure they are really important things.

A vow like 'I’m going to wake up at 5:30 every morning might be hard to keep and is a ‘little’ thing…hope that clears it up!

Looks like you are reading too much into vows. Talk to a priest, he will better explain it!

@PaladinSword has provided an excellent response!

So you think what I did is not a vow?
And just a simple thought?

Because I read in deuteronomy 23:23
Deuteronomy 23:23 (ESV) You shall be careful to do what has passed your lips, for you have voluntarily vowed to the Lord your God what you have promised with your mouth.

It said that to vow I have to say it?

I know very much how it feels to be in this situation because I am… You don’t need to worry though, you didn’t make a vow.
It was just a simple thought, vows have to be spoken, you read it in deuteronomy. You can’t control your thoughts it would be unfair for God to hold you against something you don’t have control over.
I hope I helped you :).
