How do you love God (ie;want to do what he wants)?

I find it impossible firstly because I don’t believe everything Christianity/Catholicism say you have to believe.
Eg:I believe in abortion in circumstances of rape (especially rape of a minor or a person with mental or intellectual illness) and I also believe in euthanasia.

Secondly,i find it hard due to the world we live in.
For example, now if someone doesn’t believe in gay marriage they are painted to be a bigot, a homophobe and bully etc…

Ask God to help you understand. His laws are always for our greatest good and happiness in this life and the life to come.

Love is an act of the will. Doing what He wants is a sign of love for Him. If you accept that He wants you not to support abortion and euthanasia then you are agreeing that you are acting against His will.
However, this is only a presumption based on your post. You may also mean that you do not accept the teaching of the Church on these issues as His will. That is your decision. I find it difficult to accept that it is not His will that all innocents He creates deserve life.

All your lack of acceptance of Catholic teaching means is that you are not a Catholic. How this affects your love of God is for your conscience.
Secondly, living a Christian life in an immoral society is very hard indeed. Matt 5:10
10"Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
Let them paint.You shall reap.
Look very closely at the issues of abortion and euthanasia. Do not let your emotions take over. Reason out the end results of acceptance of your views and see if you can live with the consequences. Why kill another minor because of a great evil occasioned on another. Two wrongs?
Why kill the aged because they suffer? Do not so many others suffer? How much suffering justifies their death? Who decides? Do we have the right to kill? What about capital punishment? Where do you stand there? Anything inconsistent in your reasoning? How do you stop the abuse of any such law by rapacious relatives? Study hard. Then consider the reasoning behind the Church’s opposition.
God bless you in your search for an informed conscience.

Yes , this is a problem of many that live in the real world …
I like to think the Bible has an answer for almost any problem or situation ,
The Bible is great when you open your mind while reading Matthew or Luke
And listen to the words you read , yes it was written long ago , but the problems spoken about can be interpreted into today’s world ,
If you read long enough and open at Random Pages ,
It all comes together in you mind ,
A Bit like following Breadcrumbs on a Trail ,
Little bits of answers gather before you even have a problem

Peace

I love God because love is an act of the will, not a feeling, and I choose to love Him.
I believe Christ’s claim that He is God.
I believe that Christ, who is God, founded a church, and that church is the Catholic Church.
In founding the Catholic Church He gave the leader of that Church the power to bind and to loose. I believe this means that He gave the leader of that Church, the Pope of the Catholic Church and those he designates, the power to clarify the interpretation of Scripture and to define rules for the Church and its people.

Secondly, no where in the New Testament does it say that it will be easy to follow the way of Christ. Actually, Christ promises that His followers will be persecuted. Paul says to count all loss as gain.

Elena,

I understand that you are having a tough time embracing everything within what many of us call the One True Faith. When I was young I did not always understand everything my parents told me to do: why did I have to pick up my room? why should I not play so close to the stove? why? why? why? Even with an explanation provided, it did not sink in at the time.

God knows what is best for us - He made us, after all. He has set up rules for us to live by, rules that are best for us. We may often ask why and sometimes get an explanation that we do not fully understand. If we can just trust that God knows best we will always get the best results when we follow His rules.

This is not always easy, especially in the midst of today’s culture. I object to so-called gay ‘marriage’ mostly because the Church teaches that it is wrong. I do not have a full and complete grasp of that teaching but I trust that what the Church teaches is correct, that it is in line with God’s Will. I couldn’t win a debate on the issue so I know only that I need to learn more about it, not that the Church is wrong.

I’ve encountered persecution for being Catholic and for being pro-life/anti-abortion. When confronted in the workplace I stumbled over my words and feel like I made an idiot of myself. I didn’t back down, however, because I knew I had the Truth on my side.

When you are on God’s side, you’ll always have Truth on your side.

Be at peace.

  1. Small, frequent acts of self-denial
  2. Frequent aspirations (i.e. short prayers, such as “My Jesus, mercy!”)
We must first acknowledge God’s love for us. Many excellent books can help with that e.g. ‘The Way of Divine Love.’ What you put in your mouth by reading, chew by meditation; otherwise, you will profit little from even the most sublime words.

To reject certain doctrines is problematic. God is Truth, and He speaks to us through His Mystical Body, the Church, of which Christ is the Head, and the Holy Spirit the Soul. To submit to the Church, therefore, is to submit to Christ; to reject the Church, is to reject Christ.

Study a book like ‘Right and Reason’ by Rev. Austin Fagothey, and if you still doubt the Church’s teaching on abortion and euthanasia, ask Our Lady if she would ever permit such a thing.

“If administered by oneself, euthanasia is suicide. If administered by another without the victim’s consent, it is murder. If administered by another with the victim’s consent or cooperation, it is suicide and murder combined.” (‘Right and Reason,’ p. 282)

I should have mentioned I am catholic…by baptism if nothing else.

I accept this is the churchs and Gods teaching.I just cant agree with them and would feel like a liar/hypocrite if I did.

I don’t believe in Capital punishment and it not exist in my country.

I definitely don’t agree with killing the elderly or someone else choosing Euthanasia for another person ever.Thats horrific.I only agree with it if it is selfchosen by that person themselves because their suffering is unbearable and untreatable.

“How do you stop the abuse of any such law by rapacious relatives”.
I agree with this. There must be safety measure put in place that would stop greedy,“nasty” or worn out relatives “volunteering” their loved one for euthanasia for their own self-interested.Until those safety measures were put in place I would not agree with legalising Euthenasia.

Perhaps then,if we be totally honest,i hate God?
It sometimes seems that way maybe I have hatred of God in my soul but at the same time I love all of Gods creatures and follow some rules such as “do unto others” and “love others as oneself”.
Is it possible to agree with some of Jesus teachings and even apply them but at the same time hate God/Jesus for the other things? that threaten my worldview or self determination?

God gives you the self-determination you want. You have the self-determination to love Him or not.

I agree with the above poster that mentions that you should ask God to show you; help you understand. You should ask Him to show you how “love others as oneself” is incompatible with abortion and euthanasia, both of which are killing.

You can begin to love God by taking the first steps - getting to know Him. You’ll be surprised at the peace He brings to your life.

Pray the sorrowful mysteries of the rosary, or make the stations of the cross. This is recommended by several saints to help your love grow for Jesus.

Love overcomes all things.
