How do you pick a spiritual advisor

Maybe this is the wrong place to post this but I was hoping to get (name removed by moderator)ut from others who have experience with this. I feel right now that I need the guidence. :rolleyes: :confused:

I would get recommendations from people you know who may be in spiriutal direction. Or ask your pastor to recommend someone. Not all parish priests are good spiritual directors. They take courses in pastoral counseling, but direction is another thing all together. It involves a commitment on both the directee and director. It is a relationship that is very personal and carries a lot of responsibliity. A director should be a man or woman of prayer and both of you should be praying for each other daily. That said, pray for God to send you someone. I went through 3 directors before I found mine…or should I say God found him.
 
Considering how hard they are to come by, you go with whomever will put up with you.

There is a certain providentialism involved.

A lot of people think that spiritual direction means connecting with someone like St Francis de Sales. If you wait for an engraved invitation from him, you’ll be waiting for a long time.
