We have a small prayer table set up at the end of our hall. It is very simple & has a standing crucifix, a battery operated candle, and a little dish of holy water. My 4 years old loves to go throughout the day and dip her hand in the water and make the sign of the cross. It is sweet, especially because it is self-motivated on her part. They all know they can go there any time they want to tell Jesus love you.
My 8 years old daughter and I have recently started praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet together. Before we start we write 5 special intentions on our dry erase board for the 5 decades. :We say it like this, For the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on _________ and on the whole world." I have been amazed at the things she chooses and it gives me an insight into the things and people she cares about. It was also a good opportunity for us to pray for our dying neighbor together.
My 6 year old son isn’t interested in praying much besides family prayers before bed. After teeth are brushed and pajamas on we gather in the living room. My husband says his prayer intentions then goes around asking each of us what we would like to pray for, our intentions. Then we say the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, Fatima Prayer, Act of Contrition, and Now I lay me down to sleep prayer. We say them all together, no leader. Then we go round taking turns, one person naming a saint saying “St. Therese” and then everyone else says “Pray for us”. Sometimes we go around A LOT as the children love to name their favorite saints or ones they recently learned about.
