How do you pray the Rosary Mysteries?

To my understanding the common way to pray the Rosary before the introduction of the Luminous mysteries was to pray the Joyful Mysteries on Monday, Sorrowful on Tuesdays, Glorious on Wednesdays, then start again with Joyful on Thursday, Sorrowful on Fridays, and Glorious on Saturdays.

Sundays were always Glorious.
Except in in one pryer book I had which instructed you to pray the mysteries that corresponded with the season. So if you were in a lent, you would pray the Sorrowful mysteries on Sundays, Advent and Christmas would be Joyful mysteries, and Easter Sundays after pentecost would be Glorious.
Anyone else ever encounter this method?

With the introduction of the Luminous mysteries, you would pray they Joyful on Sundays of Advent and Christmas, and during ordinary time, the Sorrowful on Sundays of Lent, and the Glorious on Sundays in Easter.

I know most people just pray the Glorious on Sundays, but I really like the idea of matching things according to the liturgical year.

The only problem is that the introduction of the luminous mysteries really changed a few things. Anyway, would love to hear how you pray your Holy Rosary!

I always prayed the rosary in the way you said with Monday and Thursday = Joyful, Tuesday and Friday = Sorrowful, and Wednesday and Saturday = Glorious. Sundays were always Glorious except in Advent = Joyful and in Lent = Sorrowful. Sometimes you could change the mysteries for a major feast day that fell on a weekday, like Ascension and Assumption would be Glorious obviously.

The table I’ve seen for days now has Glorious every Sunday, Joyful on Monday and Saturday, and Luminous on Thursday. Sorrowful stays the same and the changes to Sunday for liturgical season are removed. I’m not a fan of this approach, so I just trade the Luminous mysteries off with either the Joyful or the Glorious as I see fit. Since the Luminous mysteries include the Eucharist, it seems right to pray them on some ordinary Sundays, and of course on the feast of the Transfiguration. Other times I might pray them on Saturday and the Glorious on the Sunday.

Good call on praying the Luminous on Sundays to honor the Eucharist! Hadn’t thought of that…
 
The Rosary is a private devotion, and their is no one correct way to arrange the Mysteries. My own preference is to do them in straight chronological order, starting with the Joyful Mysteries on Monday, and then repeating the Sorrowful Mysteries on Friday and the Glorious Mysteries on Sunday. There are lots of people who will tell you how you should arrange them, but in the final analysis you should just do what speaks to you the most clearly.

Honestly, when I say the rosary I say it via the help of an incredibly beautiful and well thought out “musical” rosary.

It is not a sung rosary but an actual, acted out musical.

I saw it nearly a decade ago when volunteering as a chaperone for a far-flung retreat.

I never forgot it.

As one of the other posters suggested, some of the older literature had the Sorrowful on Sundays during Lent and the Joyful on Sundays during Advent. To respect that, I try to say an additional five mysteries on Sundays during Lent or Advent (Sorrowful or Joyful) in addition to the Glorious.

I also pray an additional five decades on Fridays during Lent (Sorrowful) as my Friday penance if circumstances are such that I eat meat that day.
 
Joyful-Monday
Luminous - Tuesday
Sorrowful - Wednesday
Glorious - Thursday

They fall in chronological order that way. The story of Jesus’ life is in the proper order as we see in Scripture.

Then, Joyful Friday
Sorrowful Saturday
Glorious Sunday.
 
Joyful: Monday, Saturday, and the feast of the Annunciation/Christmas
Sorrowful: Tuesday, Friday, Lent and Holy week
Glorius: Sunday, Wednesday, Easter Sunday and the whole week after that.
Luminious: Thursday

Now that you mention it I might change the Luminous to Sunday. It does seem appropriate.

The Scripture Source Book for Catholics (Klein), suggests that the Joyful Mysteries may be prayed on a Saturday if the mysteries of light are said on a Thursday and the Glorious on Sunday.

It goes on to suggest that we may also explore what it calls the merciful mysteries (Jesus forgives and heals the paralyzed man, Jesus forgives a great sinner who washed his feet, etc.), Genesis mysteries, Doctrinal mysteries and some others!

Personally, I follow the traditional order (Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious) changing the mysteries on a Sunday as appropriate for the season. I just like the continuity and order.
 
Never got on board with the luminous mysteries. Just always got confused. I tend to pray the sorrowful all during Lent and forget to switch off. Kind of depends what mood I am in, which mysteries I pray. it does always seem to end up as sorrowful.
 
I typically only pray the Rosary once or twice a week, so I cycle through the mysteries chronologically. I also was given a pamphlet from the Maryknoll Brothers on what they call the mission mysteries, where each decade focuses on praying for a different region of the earth and accompanying Bible passages (the visit of the Magi/Asia, Jesus sending out his disciples from village to village/Island Nations, curing the Centurion’s servant/Europe, Jesus talking with the Samaritan woman, and the coversion of Paul/Africa), so I’ve used those a few times as well.

Sundays of Advent and Christmas: Joyful
