I see some Catholics using the rosary to pray for random problems or what they intend to pray. So do I have to say something or when I pray the rosary, my intent is inside me? I’m confused. What if I want to ask Mary to pray for me on one thing, what do I have to do?

I usually start off the rosary by praying that I offer it for a certain number of intentions (I specify, of course), and then I proceed with the rosary as usual, from the Apostles’ Creed to the end. So basically I pray for intentions beforehand.

If you start off by offering it for the intentions of the immaculate heart of Mary and then perhaps add your other intentions after that?
I also add for Holy Mother church and for holy souls. Then maybe have another intention for each decade.
Or if something really important every decade on that same intention

Just say so. Say “this decade is for…”

Here’s an optional opening pray:

Queen of the Holy Rosary you have deigned to come to Fatima to reveal to the three shepherd children the treasures of grace hidden in the Rosary. Inspire our hearts with a sincere love of this devotion, in order that by meditating on the Mysteries of our Redemption which are recalled in it, We may be enriched with its fruits and obtain peace for the world, the conversion of sinners and of Russia, and the favor which we ask you in this Rosary (Family or Individual: here mention your request) We ask this for the greater glory of God, for your own honor, and for the good of all souls, especially of our own. Amen.

I offer this Rosary for the purpose of knowing the Truth and obtaining contrition and pardon for my sins. Amen

All of these are formal ways to pray your intentions. Nothing wrong with that, but it’s not necessary unless you feel like it.

I just think about my intentions and then start praying the Rosary.

I offer the Rosary for Mary’s intentions as well as any particular need I have for the day. I just tell Jesus that’s the intent.

Interesting topic. One does not need to specify an intent, before or after, praying the rosary.

for me, the rosary is 15 decades. if i’m not going to pray the full rosary then i just wont do it,

for me, i specify an intent after i finish the 15th decade and conclude with the hail holy queen prayer.

there is a good book out there on amazon, called the 54 day rosary novena, this thing will orient you and keep you on track while you make a specified petition to the virgin mary.

Offer the Rosary for a good intention: the conversions of sinners, the holy souls in purgatory, or any good and holy cause.
