a friend used to pray the rosary in the car when we drove, and for each mystery asked for a certain virtue, does anybody have a source for that list of virtues tied to each mystery?
Virtues to pray for:
Joyful Mysteries:
1st Mystery: Love of humility
2nd Mystery: Charity toward neighbor
3rd Mystery: Love of God
4th Mystery: Spirit of Sacrifice
5th Mystery: Zeal for the Glory of God

Sorrowful Mysteries:
1st Mystery: True Contrition
2nd Mystery: The Spirit of Mortification
3rd Mystery: Moral Courage
4th Mystery: The Virtue of Patience
5th Mystery: The Grace of Final Perseverance

Glorious Mysteries:
1st Mystery: Strong Faith
2nd Mystery: The Virtue of Hope
3rd Mystery: Zeal for the Glory of God
4th Mystery: The Grace of a Holy Death
5th Mystery: Greater Love for the Blessed Virgin Mary

Luminous Mysteries:
1st Mystery: Fidelity to One’s Christian Vocation
2nd Mystery: The Gift of Discipleship
3rd Mystery: A Conversion of Heart
4th Mystery: The Gift of Contemplation of Christ’s Divinity
5th Mystery: Reverence for the Blessed Sacrament

When people prayed the rosary at the Catholic Student Center at my college, I would join in with them. I pray the rosary before Mass every weekend and the Divine Mercy Chaplet after Mass every weekend. Other than that, I have a lot of trouble. It’s hard to relax enough, without falling asleep, to focus and pray the rosary on my own.

I found the easiest way to pray the rosary is in the car. I pop in a rosary CD and pray the mystery for that day while commuting to or from work. I find that praying with the CD really helps.

I pray it as often as possible, usually when a have some free time at work

I try to pray the complete Rosary every day. I say the Joyful and Luminous mysteries on the way to work, and then the Sorrowful and Glorious on the way home. I also try to pray the Divine Chaplet of Mercy – but I usually enjoy singing it…
Blessings,
Joanie

Besides saying the Rosary at night I carry one with me on the bus, depending on where I have to go that day I recite it 2 to 4 times each way. Also still carry and read an old copy of “Pillar of Fire Pillar of Truth” I´ve been lugging around for about 10 years.

I chose “daily, all decades” although I don’t technically pray “all decades” because that would be 20 decades! I pray all 5 decades of the mysteries of the day. Never done the whole thing at once (all 4 sets of mysteries).

God bless!

Hello

I pray the complete Rosary on a daily basis (20 Decades), on occasions when the time is tight I pray a set of mysteries.

The Challenge in playing the complete Rosary is trying to pray it free from distractions and passing thoughts.

I use various methods in praying the Rosary.

God Bless
Saint Andrew.

👍 I try to do the whole rosary every morning before going to mass. If I am not going to mass, I pray it when I go out for my daily run. It passes the time on the run, and I feel less tired. Sometimes I have a hard time cocentraring on the run but I do my best.

To answer the question. What is the petition prayers said on the first three hhail Marys. I say three Hail Marys for the increased virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity.

I have heard different schools of thought as too whether this is correct or not, but I pray the Rosary while I drive my car. I am an outside sales person and drive in heavy traffic. I got into the habit of being very aggressive and doggie dog. Then I started saying the Rosary and made a 180 degree turn. Now instead of rushing from point to point, I slow down to make sure I have enough time to complete the Rosary! It is great.

I also like the idea of praying the Rosary while falling asleep. ometimes I wake up 2 or 3 in the moring and catch myself praying it in my sleep! The Guadian Angel idea is great.

We pray the rosary daily (almost always) here, while we mediate on the mysteries for that day. Sometimes we pray it with Mother Angelica and her Sisters on EWTN, sometimes we pray it silently at Adoration, and sometimes we pray it at different places, such as, at abortion mills, in the car, on road trips, before or after Mass, seems to just be a part of our lives, thank God!! I once asked the Blessed Mother for a devotion to the Holy Rosary and apparently she answered me:love: If a day goes by without praying it, thank God that rarely happens, I too have tried to pray it before bed and am happy that this doesn’t happen often, because I also usually fall asleep. When I was very young, my mother told me that the angels finish it for me with the Blessed Mother if I fall asleep while praying it, oh, that is another thing we do, we ask the Blessed Mother to pray the rosary with us.
My grandmother taught me how to pray the rosary when I was three, she died soon after that, I always thought how important that was to her, that I know how to pray the rosary, and I was her youngest grandchild too. Seems her work here was done, once her youngest grandchild knew how to pray the rosary.🙂 (I still remember her like it was yesterday, I loved her very much, still do.)

:o Oh my, I grew up in Germany and never learned how to pray the rosary ( don’t laugh:nope: ). I would love to be able to feel comfortable doing it, though. Even my friend, who just went through RCIA, knows how, and I just can’t seem to get it. Is it best to go when they have a rosary service to learn? Please don’t think I’m stupid, but I really don’t know what to do:o

If you don’t have all the prayers of the rosary you can get them at this website rosary.virtualave.net/ or you can get a copy on a 15 cents rosary brochure at any good Catholic gift shop. I did not learn the rosary until I woke up to my faith about 10 years ago at a Youth2000ny retreat that I helped chaperone with my wife. The Friars would do a rosary each day in front of the Blessed Sacrament which had a very positive effect on me. I knew about the rosary and had beads from when I received my 1st Holy communion but did not know anything but the Our Father and Hail Mary prayers. Then again I did know anything at all about Adoration of the Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament until then either.
Anyway, I decided I wanted to learn the Rosary and not depend on prayer cards to know what do to next especially since I wanted to be able to pray the rosary while jogging. I took one prayer at a time and memorized it, saving the Apostles Creed for last since I could do that right before started my run. I would need to know the Hail Holy Queen because I would still be running and it would be hard to read a prayer.
The mysteries were not as tough as I thought when I looked at how each one pretty much led logically to the next one. For example the Joyful Mysteries. Annunciation ( Jesus is conceived), right after that the Blessed Virgin Mary Visits (the Visitation) Elizabeth where John the Baptist leaps in his mothers womb when he is in the presence of newly conceived Jesus. Jesus is born (the Nativity) then (the presentation of Jesus) in the temple shortly after his birth and finally Jesus grows to a young man where after staying behind there is the (Finding of Jesus in the Temple) by the Virgin Mary and St Joseph.
I don’t jog too much anymore but I still know the rosary and many times pray during commute to work using a rosary ring and sometimes but not often enough in a more quiet setting. Don’t try to learn it all in one day but take it in pieces and if you keep up with it I am sure you will remember it all.

another option of 1 set of mysteries would have been nice. This is 5 decades.

I pray along with EWTN shortwave the rosary usually once a day, one set of mysteries.

All decades i take as all 20 mysteries.

I voted daily but some days I do not because I am slack. This rosary is such a centreing prayer and basically revises much of ones faith so I see it as very valuable in offering up my daily life as a thanksgiving for knowing Jesus Christ has died for my sins and redemption:amen:

I pray one decade each morning. I offer each decade for a certain thing. The first I offer for my family, second for the intentions of the Holy Father, third for a ministry (Religious order, Shrine, Catholic charity, etc) fourth for someone who is sick , and the fifth for me. I usually offer the three Hail Marys at the beginning for a certain temptation I am facing.

I aspire to pray the rosary daily through all of the decades. In actuality, I pray about 3 times a week on average.
