How do you pray through a saint?

I usually say something like, “St (insert name), pray for us.”
Or if it’s a specific prayer, I pray the specific prayer

I suppose if writing letters is your style…

Do you journal? That would be a good way to express your thanks and ask a Saint to carry your thoughts (intentions, petitions) to God.

I pray with them, not to them… simply invoking them with a word or thought.

Treat them like they are a human person. Recognize them and the spiritual strengths you admire and let them know you ask for their help knowing these things about them.

I ask Saints (mainly St Jude) to pray for me, and then I thank them. Saints don’t answer prayers, but they intercede on our behalf.

You simply say, “St. (Name), pray for us” or “St. (Name), please pray for my intention” or “St. (Name), please help me with this.”

You can have a little conversation with them if you like, as you would with a friend. You can light a candle in front of their statue as part of your prayer or in thanksgiving for their help. It’s good to say Thank you to them sometimes.

You can find novenas to them online, sometimes chaplets, and other special prayers like Prayer to St. Michael.

You could write them letters or journal. I prefer to just talk to them though, since I lack time to write.

The saints listen.

Saint Anthony helps me find my rosary beads.

[A famous priest once told me that maybe I could get a job in Saint Anthony’s office.]

In addition to what others have said, before I open my eyes in the morning, I say good-morning and thank you to Jesus, and then to the saints I pray to. It reminds me to turn to them and say hi throughout the day (bonus: if I wind up asking them for anything, I don’t have to feel like I’m just using them!). Also, as happened Friday, when I’m in distress they’re fresh in my mind and I remember to turn to them.

I was reluctant to start praying to saints, but it’s something I really enjoy now.
