How do you prefer to go to Confession?

I have made good confessions behind the screen; that’s my usual mode. My best confessions, however, have always been face-to-face.

In a box but I don’t mind face to face. A lot of the priests I know prefer to hear confessions in the box.

There is something more personal when confession is face to face.

Face to face. Person to person.
Only my opinion, if you prefer the screen more power to you

Sometimes people haven’t been to confession for months or even years, and the grace of God touches their heart inspiring them to go to confession. So pray for them that they will make a good confession, and both of you will benefit spiritually.

Traditionally in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church one goes to confession before the icon of Christ on the iconostas. Many Ukrainian Catholic Churches (like mine) have confessionals though. Newer churches are being built without confessionals so as to encourage going to confession before the icon of Christ.

My only fear about going to confession before the icon of Christ is that I’m afraid other parishioners will hear what I mention in confession, especially if I have really serious sins to confess.

My pastor usually hears confession either in the confessional or in the sacristy (for those who can’t kneel) but he will hear confession before the icon of Christ too. He’s very flexible and a very wise priest. This is our iconostas. The relics of Blessed Nicholas Charnetsky came to our parish that week. 😊

Can you do the link again? It isn’t working for me and I would love to see the picture.

I’ve only ever done face to face. My parish has a small confessional ‘room’. There is a small wooden screen and kneeler as you come through the door but it isn’t really much of a cover as it’s not very tall. When you walk into the room you can see over the screen as you’re walking in. So, the priest can see you walking in anyway. (Unless he’s looking down) So … that’s why I’ve always only ever done face to face.

I go behind the screen. But there have been times that the priest definitely knew it was me because I had just asked him if he had time to hear my confession. Also, on pilgrimages, we have walked side by side with a priest while he heard our confession. Even if he didn’t know who we were, he did at least see us.

The times I have gone to private confession were always face to face. There is something about looking the pastor in the eye as he tells you personally that your sins are forgiven.

Here goes: (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

I get annoyed when people take way too much time in confession.
To me, 5 - 8 minutes seems long. However, I get that some people are doing the first confession in a long time, and they have a lot to get through.
