We’ve been asked to be godparents, and we take this role seriously. Besides the baptismal preparation classes offered by the church, what would be another way to prepare to be godparents? Also, what are some things we can do after the baptism to be good godparents? Any suggestions?

PRAY for your godchild and the parents. Then pray some more. Make sure you are growing in your faith and are able to share it from your heart. Then pray some more. After the baptism, visit, communicate, and pray with them, share the good times and bad. Then pray some more. Be there for them in the love of Christ. Then pray some more. Introduce your godchild to Jesus, the Blessed Mother, to the saints, to the rosary. Then pray some more.

Kaygee, thanks for the response. I’ll be praying.

This a great link with a wonderful newletter on how to prepare. My suggestion, since both my spouse and I do baptismal prep, is to attend the class the parents are usually expected to attend when they ask for baptism for their children. We strongly encourage all our godparents to attend as well. I think through their feedback that it has been invaluable to them and they have become better godparents.
Congratulations on accepting this wonderful responsibility.

…you really want to be a good God Parent…

Practice and live your catholic faith… make sure that there is no doubt to others around you which faith you practice… Be a faithful catholic… yeah, you will screw up once in a while, but there is a remedy for your return… see to it that your God child learns that…

congratulations, and good luck:thumbsup:
