Yours and my accents probably vary quite a bit .Probably to us,perhaps not to Americans? 🙂

I can usually distinguish British from Australian accents, at least I think I can, but not regional accents. I’m always somewhat surprised when I hear actors from either place speak like Americans, like Robert Taylor in the TV show Longmire. I had no idea he was Australian.

I’m sure we Californians all sound the same to you 😒

British people can find it confusing to hear “missile” pronounced as “missal” and “hostile” as “hostel”.

You pronounce “Jaguar” like:
I usually pronounce it “hoo kares”. 😂

OK fine. On the extremely rare occasions when I have reason to say this word, I say JAG-wahr.

Now that I’ve told you, please keep this information to yourself as it is highly confidential. 👵🚬

Years ago, when in the Royal Air Force, I was hitching for rides. I once asked a driver for a lift to ‘Bi-cest-er’ (near Oxford). 'It’s not Bi-cest-er, ’ he sneered. ‘It’s ‘Bister’ (Biscester).’ I felt so ashamed.

He did give me a lift, though.

Near where I used to live is a town called ‘Ynysddu’ (un-is-thee). I was floored when asked by a driver for directions to ‘Wen-zee-do-do.’

Thinking of pronunciations, I ordered an icon of Our Lady of Mount Carmel once from a Carmelite community. I pronounced it car-MEL, like we do the city here in California, but the fellow on the other end of the phone corrected me, “It’s pronounced CAR-mel,” he said, which is how we pronounce the gooey candy confection.
