How do you pronounce mantilla?

I’m inclined to believe that Pittsburghers have the actual correct pronounciation of Carnegie’s name and New Yorkers are all wet on this.

The city was initially largely settled by Scots Irish you know and the industrialist did live here for many years and was well respected.

I believe it is: man-till-uh. That is, the L’s are pronounced.

My mum says it like that as well (“man-till-ya”)

Thanks for all the replies. Seems like whether or not there is a right way, people say it and it is accepted both ways. I didn’t have the confidence to say it at all, which is silly.

Just call it a veil… thats whay I do! Besides, I don’t always wear a mantilla, I like wearing a stylish scarf. They both serve the purpose.

I have pronounced it both with and without the L’s. No one has corrected me nor have I corrected them for the way they say.
