That’s how I’ve said it, but perhaps that’s wrong.what about trid-en-teen? (where “trid” rhymes with “grid”)? That’s how I usually hear it pronounced.![]()
I love old dictionaries too, hehe. The “t” has to be strong, so I guess that’s more or less like what I said since separating “dent” from “in” would be a bit extreme.I just looked it up in a very good dictionary. It gives the main pronunciation as try-DENT-in.
You’re saying it almost rhymes with Byzantine, right?In my experience Tridentine is overwhelmingly pronounced with “Trid” rhyming with “grid”, “tine” sounds like “teen”, and the emphasis is on the first syllable.
